What you’ll do: 

The Critical Facility Carpentry Technician will join our Facilities Engineering Operations & Maintenance (O&M) program. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in both critical facilities maintenance and carpentry, along with a strong background in construction surveillance. This role will involve supporting the maintenance and operation of critical facilities while utilizing carpentry skills for repair and improvement projects. Involves the installation of doors and construction of walls within critical facilities on military bases. The technician employs specialized knowledge of construction techniques, materials, and safety protocols to execute these tasks efficiently and to meet stringent quality standards mandated for military infrastructure. Their work contributes directly to the operational readiness and security of military installations, supporting the mission-critical functions carried out on base. 

Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance and repair tasks on critical facilities, including wood and metal doors, locks, windows, metal wall stud framing, painting, tile and laminated flooring. Perform door hardware maintenance, including cleaning, lubricating, and inspecting doors and related mechanical and electromechanical devices. Test and adjust operation and alignment of doors. Troubleshoot and correct operational issues. Perform ancillary carpentry work related to door and window openings. Construct or modify building partitions and ceilings as needed for door installation. Demolishes and prepares rough openings for replacement of fire rated, sound rated doors. Installation of new frames, doors and hardware. Works with electricians for programming of door controls and automatic door operators. Install and replace carpeting, Replace tile, laminated floors. Install and repair ceiling grid systems. Installs non-load bearing walls to meet requested sound transfer ratings.

Candidate Qualifications/Requirements:

Applicants selected must have a High School diploma or GED with minimum 8+ years of experience. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements, including U.S. Citizenship, for access to classified information; Active Top-Secret Clearance Required with the ability to obtain TS/SCI Clearance.  

Desired / Advantageous Qualifications

Completion of a HVAC technical training program in a vocational or technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program is preferred.

Abilities

Lifts at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period of time. Relocates a 12 foot stepladder without assistance. Works at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks and all types of ladders. Walks, climbs, lifts, squats, crawls, kneels, pushes, pulls and reaches overhead on a routine and repetitive basis. Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English. May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools. Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.  It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem. Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense. Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events). See details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
