SUMMARY:

Provide anesthesia and related services, in accordance with hospital regulatory, licensing and credentialing policies, and with the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists (AANA) Guidelines for Nurse Anesthesia Practice and Code of Ethics.  Complies with current standards of anesthesia practice and care and provides anesthesia care that is within the scope of practice, as determined by demonstrated competency, licensure, and clinical privileges delineated by the Military Treatment Facilities (MTF).

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for administration of anesthesia and administration of all levels of sedation for pediatric and adult patients. This includes pre-, intra-, and postoperative evaluation, treatment and the support of life functions and vital organs under the stress of anesthetic, surgical, and other procedures. CRNAs provide pain management and consultation. The CRNA may provide consultation, collaborative management, or referral to other health care providers as indicated by the health status of the patient. Manage patient anesthesia experience, perform preoperative evaluations and preparations, administer monitored anesthesia care, regional and general anesthesia, monitor and manage patient reactions to anesthesia and surgery, manage fluid therapy, perform and manage invasive monitoring, and perform post‑operative evaluations as privileged by the credentials committee. Advise appropriate anesthesiologist of adverse reactions necessitating non-delegated medical decisions; take appropriate actions as directed or required. Assist with the training of other staff personnel to include in venipuncture and intravenous therapy, respiratory care, and anesthesia. Indicate responsibility for the contents and accuracy of all prepared reports/forms by affixing his/her own signature to the documents after validation. Attend and participate in professional staff conferences and other appropriate professional activities. Adhere to all Service/MTF/Local policies for delivery of anesthesia services dependent upon assigned duty location (i.e., 10 MDG or EACH). Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Perform other duties as assigned.
