YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Crop Specialist, are:

 

Manage the Foundation Seed (FS) program for assigned crops, ensuring reliability, quality, timeliness, and cost-effectiveness while driving continuous improvement;Maintain precise records of FS production in designated databases, including seed inventory, transactions, parental seed characteristics, quality, and seed health information;Ensure all parental lines are genetically stable by collaborating closely with breeders to evaluate and validate genetic quality;Provide technical support and contribute to product advancements with R&D and Production teams to enhance producibility insights and improve crop management strategies for successful new variety production;Oversee operations such as seed preparation, sowing, roguing, harvesting, threshing, conditioning, storage, shipping, and assessment of PGO (Purity Grow Out) trials; Safely operate and maintain field and warehouse equipment (e.g. forklifts, tractors, etc.) throughout the year, ensuring proper loading, securing, and transport of standard and non-standard loads;Maintain high standards of seed health by implementing and supervising hygiene protocols, sanitation processes, and quality controls as necessary;Provide support for commercial and stock seed production activities as required;Collaborate with key stakeholders, including R&D, Breeding, Production Teams, Large Seed Crop Unit, Field Quality, and Production Research, to identify and implement opportunities for improved reliability, cost efficiency, and customer satisfaction;Analyze production data (quantity, quality, cost, and timeliness) to identify and address areas for improvement, simplification, and optimization;Assist the Area Lead and Production Lead with OPEX and CAPEX preparations. Oversee and support the development of Foundation Seed Associates, where applicable;Ensure compliance with all internal and external operational standards; including Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE), Human Rights, Business Conduct, and Quality Management System (QMS) requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline with at least two years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree in a scientific discipline;Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively engage and influence all levels of the organization;Proficiency in both the local language and English;Demonstrated customer focus, innovative mindset, and willingness to experiment;Collaboration, knowledge sharing, and implementation of best practices;Relevant agricultural experience, including operating tractors, planting, and harvesting seeds;Willingness to acquire additional skills, such as trailer operation;Process and results-oriented with an exceptional attention to detail;Ability to foster the use of digital and analytical tools to drive efficiency;High organizational and decision-making capabilities;Builds trust and maintains credibility with team members and stakeholders;Proven ability to attract, develop, and build effective teams.
