Cross Border Tax Specialist

As they continue to grow and expand their operations, they are looking to add a highly skilled and experienced Senior Manager, Cross Border Tax to join their finance team.

Position Overview: The Senior Manager, Cross Border Tax will play a critical role in managing and optimizing the company's tax strategy, compliance, and planning across both Canadian and U.S. jurisdictions. This position requires a deep understanding of cross-border tax regulations, international tax treaties, and transfer pricing principles. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable tax laws, minimizing tax liabilities, and supporting the company's overall financial objectives.

Responsibilities:
Tax Strategy and Planning:Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company's tax position across Canada and the U.S.Advise on the tax implications of cross-border transactions, acquisitions, and expansions.Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess the impact on the company's tax strategy.Compliance and Reporting:Oversee the preparation and submission of tax returns, including federal, state/provincial, and local taxes in both Canada and the U.S.Ensure compliance with international tax treaties and transfer pricing regulations.Manage tax audits and inquiries from tax authorities in Canada and the U.S.Cross-Border Operations:Provide guidance on tax-efficient structures for cross-border transactions, including financing, intercompany pricing, and profit repatriation.Collaborate with legal and finance teams to ensure compliance with cross-border tax regulations.Assess and mitigate tax risks associated with cross-border operations.Financial Reporting:Assist in the preparation of tax provisions for financial statements in accordance with ASPEEnsure accurate and timely reporting of tax-related information to internal and external stakeholders.Stakeholder Engagement:Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including finance, legal, and operations teams.Liaise with external advisors, tax authorities, and industry groups to stay informed of tax developments and best practices.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; a CPA or equivalent designation is required.Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in tax, with a strong focus on cross-border tax issues between Canada and the U.S.In-depth knowledge of Canadian and U.S. tax laws, international tax treaties, and transfer pricing principles.Experience in the automotive industry or retail sector is an asset.Proven track record of successfully managing tax compliance and planning for a multinational company.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.Ability to work independently and lead a team in a fast-paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial and fun environment.Proficiency in tax software and ERP systems.Location: This position is based in Calgary, Alberta, with occasional travel required to the U.S. and other locations as needed.
