Dell Children’s has 6 nationally ranked clinical programs by US News and World Reports and delivers complex pediatric care in the most specialties in Central Texas.  As part of Ascension Seton, Dell Children’s offers pediatric care across a variety of care settings throughout the region, including through various partnerships in adult Seton and Providence healthcare settings.  Dell Children’s is a level-1 trauma center and the primary teaching hospital for Dell Medical School at The University of Texas at Austin, which also includes several complex care clinical programs and serves as training locations for medicine, nursing, and many other allied health professions.

Responsibilities

Chief Strategy Officer is responsible for the ongoing development, management and progression of the Ascension Texas pediatric strategy. Develops a clear understanding of internal dynamics and levers while focusing on external demands, opportunities and relationships positioning for growth.  Drives the organization to understand gaps and move to building strategic partnerships and/or internal capabilities. Develops and shepherds the processes to determine the need to grow and compete through buying, building or partnering.  

Leads the strategy and business development function for pediatrics at Dell Seton and across the Texas market.  Accountable for optimizing and/or growing the market’s footprint and identifying and driving new business development initiatives, strategic partnerships, mergers and acquisitions and other growth opportunities.  Works closely with pediatric leaders and the Ascension Texas CSO on implementation of strategic initiatives that position Ascension and Dell Children’s to accomplish its aspirational, annual strategic and operational goals and realize its Mission and Vision.  Ensures coordination and alignment with Ascension on the overall market pediatric strategy.   

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

Leads the development and implementation of the overall pediatric strategy and strategic plan, working in partnership with the Market and/or business unit leadership, boards, and Ascension Texas leadership team.Leads the strategic aspects of the annual Dynamic Planning development process for pediatrics, including accountability for identifying high priority strategic opportunities, risks, key capital projects and potential acquisitions and partnerships.Responsible for the identification and development of growth strategies and targets for Ascension Texas and Dell Children’s pediatric programs  and leads Ascension Texas’ pediatric business development function in close partnership with the Ministry Market or Business Unit Executives.Leads the process of developing the building blocks of the strategic plan, including the projected financial impact of each component.Co-leads the development of the three-year capital plan with the Chief Financial Officer and ensures alignment with Ascension Texas strategy.Co-leads the development of service line strategic plans and clinical programs with Dell Children’s Senior Leadership Team and.Partners with the Clinical Integration Network (CIN)/ACO to lead the market population health strategy and alignment for pediatrics including the identification of high priority gaps/opportunities.Leads the development of the overall pediatric ambulatory strategy, including the services to be offered and the partnerships that will be required, and ensures alignment with sponsors.Leads the provider development plan process to identify Ascension’s pediatric provider needs and which specialties/practices/provider-types should be pursued and optimized to implement the market Clinical Programs in collaboration with the Dell Children’s Senior Leadership Team and the Ascension Texas CSO.Champions Ascension’s transition to value-based care and population health and ensures alignment to Ascension’s strategy; partners with Finance and Ascension CIN/ACO leaders to pursue payer and employer opportunities.Spearheads efforts to identify and develop merger or acquisition targets, partnerships, joint ventures and other strategic partnership opportunities.Ensures the Master Facilities Plan process is conducted in a manner that aligns with the Ascension strategic plan. Leads implementation in collaborative partnership with other executives including but not limited to the market ministry CSO, hospital presidents, COO, CFO, CCO, and SL leaders and ensures full delivery of projected results.

Requirements

Education:

Bachelor's degree required.Master's degree preferred.

 

Work Experience:

Pediatric Leadership required. 10 years of experience required.15 years of experience preferred.5 years of leadership or management experience preferred.
