Using independent judgment, perform computed tomography, radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures utilizing a variety of radiology equipment in applying prescribed ionizing radiation to patients for diagnosis and treatment. Demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span. Possesses the ability to assess the data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to their age-specific needs.
QualificationsLicensure/Certification/Registry:
Registered Radiographer (ARRT-R) in good standing required.ARRT certification in computerized tomography required.Active license required in radiography for the IEMA.Healthcare Provider or Instructor BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.Experience:
At least one year previous experience in CT and/or equivalent clinical experience required.Other Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and guest relations skills. Responsibilities Properly position patient and equipment according to radiologist protocols. Select proper technical factors to obtain quality images. Utilize knowledge of anatomy and pathology in order to produce high quality images.Under the direction of a physician, administer appropriate contrast agents according to department protocol and maintain current knowledge of these agents and their indications/contraindications.Ensure appropriate consent forms and patient history forms are completed and signed.Ensure that exams are completed in a prompt manner for interpretation.Uses filtration devices (i.e. boluses, filters), FFD, film-screen combinations, photocell selection, etc. to obtain highest quality images.Utilize effective patient care and communication skills to obtain optimum patient rapport.Monitor patient condition and take appropriate action to ensure continuity of patient care.Ensure patient comfort, safety and modesty throughout procedures.Wear film badge to assure compliance with ALARA standards.Maintain adequate supply inventory in work area, restocking as needed. Notify supervisor of inadequate supplies.Use protective devices (i.e. aprons, gloves) and techniques according to department radiation safety guidelines.Ensure safety of other personnel and visitors required to remain in unshielded areas.Use beam restriction devices to consistently minimize radiation exposure to patients.Participate in routine call assignment.Maintain cleanliness of rooms, equipment, and other work areas and assist with transportation of patients.Assist students with other technologist with CT and Radiographic procedures.Assist all new technologists with training and guidance in learning CT.Work with Radiologist to assist with the development and maintenance of procedure protocols.Perform clerical tasks, which include scheduling exams and faxing results.
