JOB SUMMARY

The Multimodality Technologist assists physicians in the performance of diagnostic and / or therapeutic procedures by preparing the patient and operating the imaging equipment in order to obtain diagnostic images. Integrates scientific knowledge and technical skills with effective patient interaction to provide quality patient care and useful diagnostic information.

Patient Care: Ensures patient safety and comfort while in the radiology department.  

Explains the procedure and post-procedure orders to the patient to gain cooperation and minimize anxiety.   Prioritizes workflow in regard to patient condition and ensures patients’ arrival and departure occur in a timely manner.   Provides an atmosphere conducive to gain the patient's cooperation and confidence.    Utilizes data received from patient satisfaction and practice performance results to identify opportunities to improve and participates in the planning and improvement process. 

Compliance: Follows and supports OSHA regulations and uses universal precautions when required. 

Cleans examination surfaces between patients.  Provides clean linen including sheets, gowns, pillowcases, and towels.   Immediately cleans spills following universal precautions.   Properly stores accessory equipment when not in use. 

Teamwork: Works within a team to achieve patient and team goals.  

Shares and initiates regular and professional communication with co-workers.   Facilitates and participates in regular staff meetings. 

Technical Competency: Follows routine standards and properly and safely manipulates equipment, within its limitations, to obtain images.  

Maintains sterile equipment and fields.  Adjusts cameras to obtain the proper density and contrast.  Performs any necessary warm-up and quality control procedures on the equipment.   Uses protocols to obtain images of internal structures.   Critiques images for quality and makes necessary judgments to determine if repeat is necessary. 

The incumbent may be asked to perform additional duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School or GED required - Graduate from an accredited Radiology program.

Experience: 3 years of imaging experience preferred. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy for additional details.

Licensure: At least one of the following registries: CT, MR, Mammo, Dexa, Nuclear Medicine (NMTCB), Sonography (ARDMS), or Interventional Radiology required.

Additional Skills/Requirements Required: Demonstrates proficiency in verbal and written communications. Ability to work in a stressful environment. Ability to multitask and prioritize quickly. Ability to perform diagnostic procedures and to meet the specific needs of various patient age groups: neonate, infant, child, adolescent, adult, and geriatric.

The job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently traveling and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory, and visual skills. Attention to detail and ability to write legibly. Ability to lift/push/pull up to 100 lbs. For any weight over 35 lbs., use Safe Handling Equipment. May be exposed to radiation.
