CT Technologist

Position Summary

Technologist will be responsible for performing Diagnostic X-ray and CT exams to include portables, fluoroscopy and OR coverage as needed.

The Radiology Imaging Specialist performs Diagnositc X-ray and CT examinations using standardized protocols to assist in diagnostic evaluation and treatment of patients.  Exams are performed under the direction of the Radiologist and in accordance with radiation safety procedures.  Direct patient care experience is essential.   The Technologist will evaluate studies for technical image quality, complete necessary paperwork, maintain accurate patient records, transmit images to PACS and verify transmittal.  Technologists are expected to assist in other radiology areas as needed, train new personnel and student technologists, assist with clerical functions and maintain a neat and orderly work space.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

CT Technologists operate CT equipment, which produces cross-sectional images of patients' bones, organs and tissue that are used to diagnose medical conditions.

Positioning patients for CT scans using immobilization and protective equipment as necessary

Appropriately setting the controls of the related equipment, monitoring equipment and patient, making adjustments as necessary

Assisting Radiologist with imaging procedures, starting IVs, and injecting contrast, if applicable

Dispensing oral contrast to patients for CT scans

Assisting Radiologist with interventional CT procedures

Evaluating CT scans for technical quality, collating processed images in sequence of exposure and appropriately labeling

Scheduling patients for procedures and assisting with some clerical functions

Charging procedures and supplies used to the patient record

Loading and operating power injections for contrast media administration

Delivers quality, cost-effective patient care in a professional manner.

Works effectively to maintain an environment of excellence, which is patient focused, providing timely, compassionate, quality patient care.

Promotes and maintains a safe work environment for both staff and customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

Perform various types of CT scans according to protocol to include outpatients, inpatients, and ED patients.  Transmit all images to PACS and verify proper transmittal. 

Qualifications

Must be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).  

-RT(R) required

-RT(R)(CT) preferred

Successful RT(R) candidates must become CT registered within one year of employment.  All technologists must maintain their registry status and continuing education requirements annually.

All imaging specialists are required to maintain current competency in HCP BLS.
