Computed tomography (CT) technologists use computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce cross-section images of patients' internal organs and tissues for the diagnosis of medical issues. A CT scan technologist must be able to accurately interpret a physician's scanning instructions, administer contrast materials, prepare and operate the CT scan equipment, and position the patient to capture the appropriate images.
**A caregiver in this position works four 10-hour shifts from 8:30am - 7:00pm or 11:30am - 10:00pm OR three 12-hour shifts from 7:30am - 8:00pm or 9:30am - 10:00pm**
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
+ Perform computerized tomography procedures to aid in diagnosing disease or injury.
+ Schedule and prepare patients for exams including coordinating procedures with Radiology, nursing units and other departments.
+ Oversee maintenance of equipment to ensure full calibration and complete functioning.
+ Maintain adequate inventory of supplies.
+ Observe patients constantly to respond to any adverse reactions to ensure safety.
+ Keep abreast of new development in field by attending appropriate meetings/seminars and reviewing current literature.
+ Work continually to anticipate and exceed the needs and expectations of customers.
+ Assess patients' clinical history and perform exams appropriately by selecting proper settings to correspond to patients' size, shape and clinical history
+ Select proper settings that best demonstrate normal anatomy and pathology and transfer from computer to PACS and/or film.
+ Use workstations proficiently to produce quality 3D reconstructions.
+ Identify patients and properly evaluate requisition for exam to be performed.
+ Identify contrast and dosage and load pressure injector using proper settings.
+ Inject contrast material by intravenous puncture or established intravenous, under the direction of the radiologist.
+ Ensure the safety of patients, visitors, co-workers and self, by using appropriate radiation and bloodborne pathogen precautions.
+ Comply with all Radiology information systems (including PACS) entry requirements for accurate patient, film, supply and tracking monitors.
+ Assist and support the Radiologic student program, specifically the clinical aspect.
+ Provide supervision and feedback to students as they perform procedures.
+ Review images with students on request and provide quarterly evaluations of students to clinical instructions for formal reviews.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology.
+ Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technology.
+ Certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in computed tomography within 24 months.
+ Current radiology license in the State of Ohio.
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA).
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
+ Two years of experience in diagnostic radiology in order to be eligible for onsite training in CT scanning.

**Physical Requirements:**
+ Requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
+ Must be able to lift or assist with lifting patients of varying weight and manipulate equipment daily.
