Shifts: Tuesday- Wednesday- 11am-7:30pm Friday- 11am-11:30 pm E/O weekend- 11am-11:30pm **Job Description:** **Beth Israel Deaconess Milton** is committed to improving the health of our community by providing exceptional, personalized health care with dignity, compassion and respect. **Beth Israel Deaconess Milton** is seeking a **CT Technologist** for per diem shifts. At the clinical direction of a Radiologist and under the general supervision of the CT Supervisor, The CT Technologist operates a CT (computed tomography) scanner to obtain images for use by physicians in diagnoses and treatment of pathologies while following established policies and procedures. The technologist provides technical and ancillary support to the department mission through demonstrated clinical and academic competency in CT. Clinical and academic competency is defined as completing training and meeting all clinical responsibilities to all areas assigned, ability to work unsupervised in the clinical setting, willingness to rotate to all areas as the need arises, and holding appropriate licensure and advanced certification, as required by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists), the ACR (American College of Radiology), and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:** + The CT Technologist is responsible for performing CT (Computed Tomography) exams following established policies, procedures, and protocols in a manner consistent with the patients’ physical, psychological, and social needs while also ensuring that the requested exam is the appropriate study as determined through departmental policies and procedures. Technologists are also responsible for performing duties as necessary to ensure proper departmental work flow. + Following established guidelines for maintaining patient confidentiality, the CT technologist is responsible for explaining the procedure to the patient prior to the exam, ensuring that the correct exam is ordered and applicable to the patient condition, and obtaining all pertinent clinical history prior to the exam. If necessary, the technologist is responsible for contacting the appropriate persons to acquire additional information and/or orders to guarantee an appropriate exam for the patient. + In accordance with the physician’s request, CT technologists will administer iodinated contrast material by means of an existing IV line or by performing veno-puncture and placing an IV line. CT technologists are responsible for participating in IV training and/or demonstrating knowledge of proper venipuncture techniques and procedures. + The CT technologist is responsible for all technical aspects of the exam which includes scanning the exam, reviewing the data, performing multi-plane reconstructions (MPR’s), performing 3D reconstructions, performing exams in a safe and timely fashion while producing quality images, and evaluating images for correct positioning and overall quality. The CT Technologist should be able to set up the equipment and utilize proper imaging techniques. They should demonstrate an understanding of all radiation safety issues (Image Gently, Image Wisely, etc.) and follow radiation safety procedures to ensure patient safety. They should have the ability to adjust imaging factors or modify a protocol as necessary to promote high quality images and work with the radiologists to obtain additional images or provide additional reconstructions. + CT Technologists are responsible for organizing the outpatient work schedule and verifying outpatient orders are present. They are also responsible for maintaining departmental equipment through interaction with both management and department service vendors. + CT Technologists will consider specific cultural beliefs and practices when caring for patients such as utilizing interpreter services for patients if needed. + They will also monitor the patient’s condition will take action, if necessary, to facilitate the best course of care to include: nurse involvement, further monitoring, and/or other patient focused solutions. + CT Technologists are responsible for effective communication, collaboration, and cooperation with other health care providers to ensure quality and continuity of care. They will inform management and vendors of any maintenance needed to equipment in order to maximize equipment up time, patient care, and minimize the financial impact to the hospital. Technologists will communicate with coworkers any additional work that needs completion. They will treat patients and fellow staff members with dignity and respect and report any/all problems to the supervisor. Technologists will ensure that all required documentation is completed for billing and treatment purposes. + Employee maintains competencies (position specific and hospital-wide) required for the specific patient population served. + CT Technologists must perform all duties in accordance with safety and other laws, rules, and regulations set forth by appropriate regulatory and government agencies and in accordance with established department and hospital policies and procedures. Technologists must maintain current ARRT registration and Massachusetts License in CT (Computed Tomography) as well as proper CEU credits. They must provide copies of the above-mentioned documents to keep on file in the CT Department. + Technologists may be required to perform similar or related duties as may be necessary on an emergency basis or as designated by the Director of Radiology or the CT Supervisor. _Employees will be oriented to and required to understand and follow the standard precautions for infection control. Also identified is the protective gear that is available._ **QUALIFICATIONS:** + Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program. Current license by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiology and CT Scan. BLS with American Heart Association required. + A minimum of 1 year of experience in Diagnostic Radiology is required for this position, CT experience preferred.
