Job Description:

The CT Tech performs a variety of CT procedures using ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. This position uses ingenuity, iniative, and independent judgement to perform high quality scans.

Essential Functions

Maintains ARRT competency in all clinical and technical functions of the jobUnderstands and operates CT equipment and related information systems appropriately to ensure production of quality images.Ensures proper patient identification, order verification, and prepares the patient for the exam.Performs exams per department protocol.Reviews and evaluates images for quality, clarity, and accuracy, ensuring that all necessary anatomical structures are captured.Adheres to radiation safety guidelines and maintains a safe working environment for patients and staff.Completes studies within acceptable time limitations per department expectations without compromising patient care or the quality of the examination.Provides appropriate patient education, ensures patient comfort, and addresses patient and/or family concerns.Coordinates patient care and communicates pertinent information to other patient care providers following procedure.Practices appropriate infection control and sterile techniques.Keeps accurate records of patient information, procedures performed, and any adverse reactions or incidents.Follows appropriate protocol for medical necessity, coding and charging, obtaining necessary consents, maintaining applicable QC program and reporting any equipment failures or problems.As ordered by the physician and under radiologist or physician supervision administers contrast media to patients per protocol and provides education to patients regarding safety concerns inherent to contrast administration.Stays updated with the latest advancements in CT technology, techniques, and protocols by participating in continuing education and professional development activitiesAssists and instructs students and other radiology technologists in exam protocols, procedures, positioning, and equipment.

Scope

As a CT Technologist you need to know how to:

Perform a variety of CT procedures to produce images of a patients body for diagnostic purposes.Additionally, be responsible for obtaining patients history, explaining the procedure/process to the patients and/or family members, and addressing any patient questions/concerns.Collaborate with both internal and external healthcare team members to contribute to the plan of care of the patient.In collaboration with the Director/Manager of Imaging, assist in identifying and driving quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) within 60 days, RequiredARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT (R) Upon Hire, RequiredCertified Computed Tomography Technologist - American Registry of Radiography Technologists ARRT (R)(CT), PreferredLicensure in state of practice as applicable, Upon Hire, RequiredIV Competency within 90 Days, RequiredFor caregivers hired in this role in the State of Colorado, a Fluoroscopy certification, PreferredSpecific facility-based certification may also be required for this role. If this applies, each facility will define and manage compliance1-2 years Work Experience CT Experience in a hospital setting, Preferred
