JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY
The Cultural Resources Coordinator is responsible for assisting the Director of Historic Preservation and Cultural Resources Supervisor with monitoring projects on the Agua Caliente Indian Reservation and within the Agua Caliente traditional use area. Primary responsibilities include assisting with supervising the ACBCI Cultural Monitor staff to ensure the effective monitoring of construction projects that are known to have cultural sensitivity or have the potential to impact historic resources. May be required to perform other tasks, including cultural monitoring, or assisting with archeological survey, and excavation activities as needed. Responsible for the management of detailed and accurate notes, project documents, photos, and monitoring records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)
Review associated background data and contract requirements for monitoring projects and distributes this information to the Cultural Monitors. Coordinate with appropriate client representatives to determine the monitoring schedule. Regularly visit project sites to maintain relationships and mediate any issues that may arise. Keep the director informed of any issues. Create a weekly schedule and distribute it to the Cultural Monitors. Securing and distributing weekly timesheet packages to each Monitor as needed. Check at the end of each monitoring day and/or pay period to ensure that time sheets are correctly completed for the day including an accurate listing of hours worked and project assignments by specific title. At the end of each two-week period, check timesheets for accuracy. Will also make sure all pertinent billing information goes to the Accounting Department for processing. Assure all mileage checks are distributed to all who turned in reimbursement forms. Maintain contact with the Cultural Resources Supervisor to follow monitor request both internal and external monitoring requests and make sure these requests are covered in the field. Make sure Monitors arrive on sites when scheduled and on time, as specified; and that the number of Monitors are adequate for proper coverage of construction activity and cultural sensitivity. Train, advise and assist Monitors and Apprentices in feature identification, forms preparation, or other relevant skill improvement activities as deemed necessary. Monitor projects on an as needed basis. Attend weekly Cultural Resource business meetings and note when projects are pending that require monitoring. Maintain all records according to departmental standards. Assure that all monitors and equipment in the field uphold appropriate safety standards. This includes regular checkup on monitors in the field and making sure field equipment and Personal Protective Equipment is up to current safety standards. Track training and certifications for Cultural Monitors and schedule new training as needed. Provide Cultural Monitors training on an as needed basis. Present a professional demeanor and maintain confidentiality as a representative of the ACBCI THPO department. Assist with supervision of Cultural Monitor staff. Coordinate, direct and evaluate Cultural Monitors in the areas of policies, procedures and job performance. Ensures adherence to policies and procedures, and internal controls. Must also be able to work as a team player and assist the department in all other duties needed. Scan project documentation for present and past projects reviewed by the department. Assist with research as needed. Assist with document and project reviews as needed. Assist with the preparation of artifacts for curation. Assist with archeological survey and excavation projects as needed. Attend meetings on behalf of the THPO department. Assist the Director, and THPO staff with a variety of tasks as needed. Ability to perform fieldwork in extreme weather. Ability to work both independently with little direction and in a group with direction. Excellent time management skills and work ethic.
