CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on the Department of Defense (DoD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and other CSU departments to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations. Scott Air Force Base is home of Air Mobility Command’s “Showcase Wing.” An assignment here offers you an opportunity to serve in a very dynamic and Joint Total Force environment. Scott is located in southern Illinois and is part of the “Metro-East” portion of the greater St. Louis area, surrounded by the cities of Belleville, OFallon, Shiloh, and Mascoutah in St. Clair County. The base is located near historic Belleville, Ill. approximately 20 miles east of St. Louis, which is the largest city near the base. A Cultural Resources Technician position is available with Colorado State University’s ( CSU ) Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands ( CEMML ). This entry-level position will support the Cultural Resources Management ( CRM ) Program at Scott Air Force Base ( AFB ), IL with a combination of fieldwork and office tasks. The technician will provide general support for the CRM Program by conducting archaeological inventories and assessments, writing agreement documents for State Historic Preservation Office ( SHPO ) submission, developing public outreach materials, and supporting the base’s National Historic Preservation Act ( NHPA ) compliance requirements. Additionally, the technician will provide support as-needed for the Scott AFB Natural Resources Program. Potential duties may include but will not be limited to the tasks below: + Archaeological field-data collection, entry, and/or management + Archaeological inventory and/or assessment + Conduct historical and/or archival research + Help write and edit technical reports + Help develop a Programmatic Agreement (PA) + SHPO correspondence and/or documentation + Develop public outreach materials for the CR Program + Update and/or maintain Scott AFB’s Integrated Cultural Resources Management Plan ( ICRMP ) + Data analysis and/or mapping using ArcGIS Must have a valid driver’s license or the ability to obtain a driver’s license by the employment start date.
