Custodial Supervisor

Requirements

The Custodial Supervisor supervises custodial staff by directing building cleaning and related services. S/he ensures that custodial staff is scheduled and assigned to various buildings and/or areas, inspects work to ensure satisfactory performance, takes action to correct deficiencies, and takes necessary steps to meet special requirements or circumstances. This employee supervises staff but may also be required to perform tasks assigned to custodians when necessary. Under the supervision of the Assistant Director, additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Ensure that services provided are consistent and at a high level of quality through adequate training, supervision of production work, and emphasizing proper use of chemicals, equipment and the importance of quality control.

Coordinate issues promptly and thoroughly with the Assistant Director.

Routinely update and ensure all needed training occurs for their staff on cleaning protocols for disinfecting procedures, products, and equipment, using industry level knowledge.

Understand the needs of the customers and building contacts to routinely respond to their needs, demonstrating a willingness to serve.

Serve as the designated building manager for the buildings under their care, reviewing and inspecting buildings with the use of inspection programs, on a regular basis, for cleanliness, safety, maintenance issues, and building readiness.

Meet with designated building clients on a set schedule and review inspection information.

Report issues and follow up on them to ensure completion. 

Work a Sunday through Thursday schedule.

Work Interactions

This position reports to the Assistant Director of Custodial Services. Reporting directly to this position are ten to fifteen custodians and in some instances one to two floor care specialists. The incumbent and staff work during particular shift hours to ensure buildings are maintained and emergencies are taken care of. The incumbent’s area of responsibility will cover 300,000 to 450,000 square feet of space. May be called upon to lead and/or participate in department and college wide committees. This position serves as a representative for the University Facilities department to the university community and visitors. The incumbent must act in a professional manner, carry proper identification and comply with University and department policies and procedures. The incumbent serves as a member of a team demonstrating a willingness to be flexible with personal and staff schedule to accommodate emergency situations such as staffing shortages and snow removal.

Requirements and Qualifications

Five years of custodial experience; College degree preferred

Some plant operation maintenance experience is helpful

Has a demonstrable knowledge of the chemistry behind the cleaning process and keeps pace with the changing technology and its application

Computer literacy

Required to have a valid District of Columbia, Maryland or Virginia driver’s license

Requires a basic knowledge of English including the ability to read, write and speak English with understanding

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally essential

Must be able to work as part of a team

Must have ability to act independently and exercise mature judgement

Should also have capability to analyze relevant operational issues and identify solutions

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:

$41,926.00 - $65,090.00

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
