Custodian, Evening Shift

The University of Virginia Facilities Management department offers a career that affords exciting growth opportunities for employees. We are currently seeking Custodian candidates for the following shift in our North Grounds Zone:

Monday - Friday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm

Position Compensation - $15.00 per hour, dependent on candidate qualifications and experience. This position also receives an additional $1.00/hour shift differential. This is a full-time, overtime-eligible position with UVA benefits.

Custodians perform exceptional housekeeping services in assigned areas through safe work practices while using proper housekeeping techniques. The position maintains good working relationships with customers, staff, students, and supervisors. Custodians completes special project work as assigned and gain increasing efficiency with cleaning techniques, supplies, and equipment.

Basic housekeeping experience, including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash is preferred. Ability to follow established policies, procedures, and directions, as well as adhere to regulatory guidelines in daily work is required. Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are also essential. Basic computer, tablet, and/or smart phone usage and the ability to submit electronic timesheets are also required. 

Duties Include:

Maintain offices, classrooms, restrooms, public areas, or other assigned areas in clean and orderly condition.

Remove trash, clean bathrooms, wipe down surfaces, dust, vacuum, etc. Apply proper methods and materials. May mix own cleaning solutions.

Maintain clean and orderly housekeeping closets and equipment and keep inventories of supplies, requesting additional supplies as needed.

Report all repairs and pest control needs, and any housekeeping-related violations by residents, guests, or staff.

May perform minor maintenance tasks, such as changing bulbs, or more complex tasks including operating cleaning equipment such as buffers or waxers.

In addition to the above job responsibilities, other duties may be assigned.

All new hires will pass a background check before the start date.

Minimum Requirements:

Education: None

Experience: Some experience with basic housekeeping duties including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, cleaning carpets, cleaning bathrooms and removal of trash in a workplace setting is preferred.
