JOB DESCRIPTION: Groundskeeper/District Suppoerter to maintain a clean, safe and attractive environment for students, staff and public throughout the District. REPORTS TO: Director of Buildings & Grounds (and Facilities Operations Manager) RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Conforms to all Board policies and administrative rules and regulations;
+ Maintains a polite and helpful attitude when dealing with students, school employees and the public;
+ Mows lawns and trims grass around walks, flower beds, trees and walls;
+ Prunes shrubs and trees, to shape and improve growth
+ Removes fallen or damaged leaves, branches, and twigs using mowers, tractors and other hand and power tools;
+ Maintains flower beds, mulch beds, or other decorative vegetation;
+ Maintains and sharpens tools and makes minor repairs on equipment, as needed;
+ Utilize independent judgement in preforming grounds maintenance and activities;
+ Removes snow and ice from walks and driveways, utilizing hand tools, machines or vehicles;
+ Spreads salt, picks up litter, rakes, removes debris from grounds;
+ Maintains driveways and parking lots, including but not limited to filling potholes and sweeping of accumulated debris;
+ Performs routine inspections, cleaning and maintenance on gardening and grounds equipment;
+ Blows and sweeps sidewalks, driveways parking lots and other assigned areas;
+ Maintains athletic fields and prepares them for events;
+ Operate trucks and assorted power equipment, such as mowers, tractors, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, and pruning saws;
+ Assist in the setup and tear-down of event furniture, such as tables, chairs, tents, portable stages;
+ Assist in moving furniture, supplies and materials;
+ Assists Maintenance and/or Custodians in repairs to building fixtures and equipment;
+ Maintain routine records such as work orders, equipment repairs and maintenance and overtime assignments;
+ Assist in custodial activities as needed;
+ Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner;
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ High School or vocational school graduate or has a GED;
+ Ability to follow both oral and written directions with a minimum of supervision;
+ Read and understand Safety Data Sheets (SOS);
+ Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in the care of school grounds;
+ Knowledge of basic grounds maintenance procedures including mowing, edging, raking and weeding;
+ Knowledge of safe work procedures in the operation of hand and power tools and equipment;
+ Experience with the operation and maintenance of hand and power tools and equipment used in grounds keeping and minor repairs;
+ Knowledge of safe and defensive driving practices and methods;
+ Work effectively both independently and as a part of a team, including establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with those contacted during performance of job duties;
+ Ability to observe and report safety hazards and need for maintenance and repair;
+ Knowledge of how to maintain tools and equipment in clean working order;
+ Ability to use all relevant electronic and communication devices;
+ Valid CT driver's license with a clean driving record;
+ Ability to be flexible and receptive to change;
+ Be of sound physical health, able to lift various reasonably heavy objects for weight and size, climb ladders and generally perform tasks that involve moderately strenuous work.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve month position, Forty (40) hour week. Holidays, vacations, fringe benefits and salary based on custodial contract. EVALUATION: Performance of assigned work will be evaluated by Director of Facilities (and the Facilities Operations Manager).
