Summary of Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the BSO Custodial Services Manager, the Custodian-I/ Disinfection Technician part-time position (CD Techs), requires regular performance of general custodial, disinfecting, and sanitation maintenance tasks to ensure the environmental health and safety of assigned Agency facilities, both internally and externally. This position monitors and assists with inventories and maintenance of materials, equipment and supplies for the Department.
In addition to performing general custodial duties, the Custodian-I/Disinfection Technician part-time position is also responsible for the safe and efficient deployment of the Agency’s enhanced cleaning and disinfectant services. This position will regularly perform specific disinfectant & sanitation tasks to ensure the environmental health and safety of assigned Agency facilities, both internally and externally. Wearing provided personal protective equipment (PPE), these positions duties will be responsible for the spraying, wiping, fogging, or moping disinfectants at Agency facilities/worksites/event areas and equipment. This position assist in maintaining facility compliance with all pertinent OSHA/regulatory standards & procedures, completes required documentation on completed duties, participates in inspections to ensure consumer satisfaction and adherence to established facility maintenance/safety standards and policies.
Qualifications/Education and Experience:
+ Education: High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma required ; related training and/or certifications is a plus.
Willingness to attend training, coursework, related instruction, and research to increase skills and knowledge and skills (i.e., OSHA, EPA, etc.), in a specified timeframe is required.
+ Experience: Minimum of three (3 years’) work experience in janitorial/custodial maintenance, sanitation, environmental health and/ or safety position is required.
+ Knowledge of custodial maintenance and personal safety standards preferred; familiarity with OSHA guidelines and certification in general maintenance and/or related safety areas is required.
+ Requires satisfactory verbal and written communication skills; must have strong ability to follow and respond satisfactorily to detailed instructions/directives, both oral and written; must have good interpersonal and customer relations skills; ability to work with diverse individuals, groups & staff at all organizational levels both internal/external.
+ Requires strong demonstrated knowledge of custodial practices, procedures, and equipment; requires knowledge of proper safety precautions for usage of chemicals and cleaning supplies used in custodial work; must have demonstrated knowledge of methods and techniques for proper storing of equipment, materials, and supplies.
+ Requires direct cleaning/maintenance ability and experience at comparable organizations/facilities; must have demonstrated knowledge and experience of proper methods, techniques, on using materials, tools and equipment used in modern custodial/maintenance/disinfecting/maintenance work; requires ability to properly use cleaning/disinfecting materials, equipment, and methods safely, efficiently, and according to pre-determined standards and procedures.
+ Knowledge and training directly related to Covid-19 and other infectious viruses/disease control (i.e., origins, factors, pandemics, etc.) is a plus; knowledge of infection prevention/intervention and risk-reduction practices aimed at reducing transmission of germs, contaminants, etc. that may contribute to infectious facility conditions is extremely helpful.
+ Knowledge of proper cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance methods and equipment used for care of floors/stairs, carpets, furniture, walls and building fixtures is required.
+ Ability to perform heavy manual lifting; and requires ability to move and lift heavy objects- fifty pounds.
+ Ability to work scheduled hours; flexibility to work overtime/ varying hours and shifts as assigned. Note: Head Start Program Summer project work normally runs June – September, staff reporting times are subject to change.
+ Bi-lingual capabilities English/Spanish is a plus.
+ Must have a valid NYS Driver’s License and have access to reliable transportation.
+ Ability to pass P.E. and State Central Registry Clearance; Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and physical.
