**Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD)** has an immediate opening for a **Custodian I** located at **Columbus General Office** in **Columbus** , Nebraska. Position closes Monday, March 17, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. Central Time.
Note: The work hours for this position are 4:00am to 12:30pm, Monday through Friday.
This position will report to the Facility Services Supervisor.
**Position Summary**
A Custodian I cleans, maintains and performs housekeeping activities for the assigned facilities. Incumbent may repair furniture, equipment and interior of the assigned facilities and may maintain the exterior of the facilities and grounds.
**Education, Training and Experience**
High School or GED required. A valid Nebraska's driver license is required. Custodial seminars or training is preferred. Previous custodial/janitorial experience is preferred. Mechanical training and/or experience a plus.

**Essential Duties & Responsibilities**
Maintain the cleanliness of the assigned facility's floors including vacuuming, shampooing, and carpet repair. Mopping, stripping, waxing, and painting. Operate related floor care equipment. Clean and maintain restrooms, breakrooms, and locker rooms. Dispose of biohazard containers located throughout the facility. Assist with and perform repairs as needed to plumbing fixtures, including adjusting water pressure. Maintain waste lines, floor drains, and clean-outs for proper operation. Dust and clean office furniture, walls, fixtures and equipment; clean, touch up or paint walls, ceilings and doors; clean windows, blinds and interior glass panels. Clean and maintain facility entry ways. Empty wastepaper baskets and recyclable containers as appropriate. Maintain inventory of custodial supplies and reorder as needed. Understand and maintain MSDS sheets of custodial used chemicals.
Maintain the exterior grounds of the facilities. Operate and maintain lawn mowing, edging, and trimming equipment. Trim trees and shrubs; maintain flowers and other plants. Identify and report poor lawn conditions. Remove snow and deice sidewalks, crosswalks, walk lanes, parking lots, and loading docks. Use snow blowers and/or shovels (including evenings and weekends).
Prepare conference rooms for requested meetings as necessary. This includes setting up and taking down tables and chairs. Turn lights on at the beginning of shift and off at end of shift. As necessary, complete various errands using an NPPD vehicle.
Assemble, repair, and relocate office furniture and workstations. Tear down and rebuild modular wall systems. Assist with lamp replacement on all electrical fixtures; be familiar with main breakers and circuit breakers location. Check and adjust time on clocks; check fire alarm system and assist in the startup and shut down of HVAC equipment.

**Salary Information** _-_ Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.
**Pay Grade -** 3
**Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range:** $14.44 - $17.33
**Travel Required:** 25% to 50% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) _Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview._

**Retirement Savings**
NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
