Join Trane as a Custom Application Engineer! As an Air Handling Unit (AHU) Application Engineer, you will interface directly with outside sales teams and their clients in day-to-day activities of order procurement and act as a product expert to direct and review selections, specifications, and drawings. Additionally, you will be providing design pricing and drawings, which may involve working directly with both the internal product engineering team and external vendors. You will also be responsible for reporting issues and assisting in the improvement of our proprietary equipment selection software. Expertise and experience will be drawn from and utilized to improve our product value stream from initial customer contact through warranty coverage.

Where is the work:

Due to the nature of this role, this position has been designated as a full-time work schedule, with work performed onsite 5 days each week. 

What you will do: 

Provide application, budget, layout, competitive review, takeoff, selection, and pricing support for field sales organization. Design custom air handling units, which includes component engineering selections, air-handling equipment layouts, and specification development. Provide technical assistance for users of the Trane Select Assist software (TSA), specifically the field selectable Custom Air Handler. Advise project leaders on competitive advantages/disadvantages necessary in setting the most effective strategy for bids or design work. Generate detailed proposals based on product selections and variations to the plan and specs. Reviews budgets and price quotations with the Sales Enablement Manager prior to sending to the customer. Create and maintain engineering documentation. Including technical reports, lab test results, drawings, and specifications. Provide a complete package of information to the submittal team on new orders. Participate in formal hand-off meeting with the submittal team on new orders received. Be a technical liaison with field order entry personnel. Host/Co-Host Customer factory visits and factory witness testing. Testing of selection and pricing tools. Provide training/mentoring for other team members.

 What you will bring:

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, engineering (Electrical or Mechanical), with 0-2 years’ experience or 5-years equivalent experience working in the HVAC industry. Strong communication and analytical skills required. Excellent organizational skills required. Knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning/refrigeration (HVAC/R) fundamentals preferred. Experience in AutoCAD preferred. Lean or continuous improvement experience preferred. Proficiency with Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task. Ability to flourish with minimal guidance, be proactive, and handle uncertainty.

Compensation:

Base Pay Range:  $75,000 – 95,000/year
