Customer Service Representative/Adoptions Counselor
About the organization A nonprofit organization dedicated to animal welfare and the protection of animals in the Peninsula area of the San Francisco Bay Area in California that offers various services and programs focused on animal care, adoption, education, and advocacy. Position overview Work with the public to place animals into permanent, loving and responsible homes. Assist the public with all inquiries and requests in a positive friendly manner. Educate and counsel the public on responsible pet ownership. This position is represented by Union Local 856. Responsibilities: + Perform job duties consistent with organizational goals and objectives. + Show adoptable animals in an educational manner, using their evaluations and adopter profiles to facilitate lasting matches. + Counsel visitors on safe interactions with adoptable animals. + Communicate effectively with a diverse customer base to achieve positive adoption outcomes. + Suggest appropriate animals to adopters based on experience levels. + Participate in Behavior Playgroups to enhance the adoptability of shelter dogs. + Update the website with new animal photos and bios, and remove adopted animals promptly. + Care for and educate the public about exotic animals available for adoption. + Maintain a positive approach with the public, staff, and volunteers. + Administer microchip IDs and vaccinate animals as needed. + Counsel the public on responsible animal care issues. + Handle counter transactions, including adoption interviews and cashier duties. + Maintain cleanliness in kennels and the Adoption Center. + Safely handle and socialize all adoptable animals, including exotics. + Work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment. + Collaborate professionally with the public, volunteers, and co-workers. Qualifications: + High school diploma or GED; or relevant experience. + Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Chameleon database. + Background check and union membership upon hire. + Valid California driver's license with a satisfactory record. + Knowledge of animal breeds, nutrition, and care. + Ability to work with various animals and a commitment to humane treatment. + Clear and professional communication skills. + Basic math skills and ability to interpret instructions and data.
