CV 1st Assist- Surg Tech

Job Summary

The Certified Surgical First Assistant anticipates the needs of the surgical team. Provides assistance to the surgeon by aiding in exposure, hemostasis, closing the incision, and other technical functions that assist the surgeon to carry out a safe operation. The Certified Surgical First Assistant will assist all surgical specialty teams/ surgeons.

Frye Regional Medical Center, located in the beautiful foothills of North Carolina is a 355-bed acute care hospital, 81-bed Behavioral Health facility and more than 70 primary and specialty care providers.

Essential Functions

Positions patient to give best exposure for surgical procedure, using stabilizing equipment when necessary, while maximizing patient comfort and safety.Provides visualization of the operative site using appropriate method, including manipulation of tissue and materials, retraction, sponging, suctioning, and irrigation.Utilizes appropriate technique to achieve temporary and permanent hemostasis.Assists with body plane closure, application of wound dressings, and securing of drainage systems.Ability to work flexible and long hours. Call required on weekdays, weekends and holidays. Knowledge of an ability to apply AORN recommended practices.

Minimum Education

High School diploma or equivalent required Surgical Technology, AAS highly preferred

Licenses/Certifications

BLS (Basic Life Support) requiredCertification for Surgical Technology with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting preferredGraduate approved Surgical Technologist School, Completion First Assistant CourseCertification for Surgical Technology with the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting required
