The IC Scalable Cyber Department in MITRE’s Intelligence Center is based out of Bedford, MA. The department manages, guides, and directs approximately 50 technical staff in support of domain-specific work across a variety of our sponsors’ missions. The department work program delivers reverse engineering and cyber capabilities for sponsors in partnership with organizations across MITRE National Security (MNS) and MITRE Labs organizations. Our focus is on applying advanced reverse engineering and capability research to maintain and enhance the impact of our sponsors on their core missions. Our staff maintain deep expertise in the relevant complex systems involved, while continuing to grow awareness of new technologies and techniques as the field of cyber and technology evolve. We lead the development and implementation of advanced capabilities that are critical to meeting national security objectives, using a variety of approaches and techniques in the areas of Reverse Engineering and Low-Level Binary Analysis, Cross-Architecture System Analysis, Operating Systems Security, Network Systems and Protocol Analysis, Embedded Systems (such as Internet of Things (IoT) and Cellular Devices) and more.
Job Description:
The IC Scalable Cyber Department is seeking a Lead engineer to take responsibility for a team of engineers to maintain the delivery of cyber capabilities for our sponsor’s mission. This requires both deep technical expertise and leadership as a primary contributor and innovator to the technical domain, as well as the management and oversight of task logistics, staffing, quality, collaboration within MITRE, and sponsor engagement.
As a lead member of the project, applicants must have notable experience/expertise in all of the following areas:
Operating System (OS) internals low-level/driver development (Linux/Unix)Development of capabilities in C/C++ and low-level assembly for embedded platformsDebugging and instrumentation of capabilities in embedded environmentsReverse engineering and characterization of complex systemsAnalysis of network systems and protocolsComputer networking and securityLeadership of a team of engineers on a complex technical taskEngagement with sponsors and their industry partners in both a strategic and tactical roleFamiliarity with project planning tools related to staffing and managing project/task logisticsRoles & Responsibilities:
The task lead is ultimately responsible for the delivery of capabilities to the sponsor mission, along with all the dimensions included. That includes, but is not limited to, the following specific items.
Lead a team of software engineers for delivery capabilitiesContribute significantly to the technical capabilities delivered and innovation in this areaPerform task lead responsibilities with respect to sponsor engagement, staff development, coordinating with the project leader and department managementAdjust and react to changing sponsor priorities and urgency that may create aggressive schedules Propose and conduct technical research in anticipation of evolving sponsor requirementsEngage with the sponsor and their industry partners to transition capabilitiesBasic Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 8 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree or equivalent combination of related education and work experience.Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related engineering discipline and hands-on technical experience in cyber capabilities developmentAn active TS/SCI clearanceExperience developing and debugging capabilities in C and assembly in embedded environmentsExperience leading a team of engineers for sponsor mission impactExperience engaging with sponsors and their industry partnersExperience with Operating System internals (Linux/Unix) and driver developmentThis position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.Preferred Qualifications:
