Rooted in justice, relationship, and community collaboration, PSU SSW advances knowledge and creates social change through teaching, research, practice, and advocacy. Our core values and beliefs include collective care, responsive learning, knowledge that serves, community partnership, and social change.The SSW provides accessible interdisciplinary educational opportunities and actively works to bring about structural change through its teaching, training, workforce development, research, and advocacy. The SSW includes two undergraduate majors: Child, Youth, & Family Studies and BSW and two graduate programs: MSW and PhD. Position Summary This position is open to instructors interested in teaching in Portland, OR and/or online. The Child, Youth, and Family Studies program (CYFS) uses a justice-minded orientation to understand both the history and contemporary social positions of children, youth, and families. The curriculum centers dynamic analysis of race, class, gender, ability, sexualities, and development as factors shaping the experiences of children, youth and families. CYFS is an undergraduate program located in the PSU School of Social Work (SSW). Please note that we utilize an interdisciplinary focus. Minimum Qualifications M.S. or M.A. in a field of study closely related to children, youth, and families (e.g., education, sociology, human development, psychology, youth studies, family studies, social work, early childhood); OR a B.A. or B.S. and demonstrated teaching or practice experience. Preferred Qualifications We primarily seek applicants who have expertise in critical theory or epistemologies, experiential or emancipatory pedagogies, writing instruction, aging in families,social policy, child life, and related aspects of the Child, Youth, & Family Studies curriculum (including courses in family of origin and bias recognition, social justice and anti-oppression work, family theory, stress and coping, child life, family law and policy, and related courses). CFLE credentialing is desired. Ideal candidates will also provide evidence of their experience working effectively around issues of social justice, diversity, and inclusion, with demonstrated capacity to meet the needs of underrepresented students and other marginalized groups.
