Cytogenetic Scientist - Sun - Thurs - 11am - 7:30pm
The ideal candidate will be CG ASCP certified

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Accessions, processes, and performs clinical testing.
- Correctly receives, accessions, processes, and assures proper identification of specimen
- Independently performs tissue culture, harvest, and slide staining and scanning, including analysis of:

*Specimen type
*Disease state
*Culture conditions
*Type of clinical tests needed
*Appropriate condition of metaphase preparation on slides
*Appropriate staining necessary for metaphase analysis

- Evaluates specimen integrity necessary for clinical testing and notifies appropriate personnel of unacceptable specimens in accordance with departmental procedure
- Acquires and maintains proficiency in computer functions
- Independently performs work without undue reliance on others and assists co-workers as time permits
- Keeps abreast of new procedures and policies
- Performs and documents all required quality control/quality assurance
- Readily instructs new personnel and students regarding theories, techniques, and processes

Maintains organized processes, inventory, instruments, and equipment to provide optimal and timely patient results.
- Prioritizes and organizes workflow meeting productivity goals of the section
- Remains knowledgeable of processes and pre-analytical procedures enabling efficient trouble shooting and problem solving
- Assists with monitoring and documenting of the sections inventory control system while assuring effective use of supplies.
- Performs routine instrument maintenance and trouble shoots instrument performance for clinical tests.

Performs all tasks in positive manner to result in appropriate positive customer service.- Complies with section's telephone courtesy policies and procedures
- Reports results of problem resolutions to callers in accordance with section's policies
- Demonstrates cooperation when working with both internal and external customers
- Demonstrates calmness under varying environmental circumstances; remains willing and capable of assisting with crisis situations
- Consistently well groomed; maintains a high standard of personal hygiene; adheres to the section/divisional dress code.

Other duties as assigned.

Bachelor's degree in Cytogenetic Technology -OR- Bachelor's degree in a related science field. With Bachelor's degree in a related science field, one year of clinical laboratory experience.
