Accurately orients tissue in paraffin blocks. Produces high-quality slides using a microtome.  Performs special stains as required.  Prepare necessary reagents according to procedure. Monitors instrumentation for daily quality control and preventative maintenance. Enters surgical specimen data into the laboratory computer system.  Willingly accepts other duties as required.

Completion of coursework in Histopathology preferred.

Three (3) years experience in a laboratory as an MLT or MT preferred.  Spatial ability is required to perceive three-dimensional and geometric relationships when cutting paraffin blocks and embedding specimens.  Finger dexterity to manipulate micro-thin tissue.  Color discrimination to verify the diagnostic quality of staining.  Visual acuity to operate microtome.

Registered or registry-eligible Histo-technologist or Histo-technician (HT(ASCP), HTL(ASCP) preferred.  In the event no Registered or Registry-eligible applicants are available, coursework in histopathology will be evaluated.  If such courses are absent in the curricula of the applicants, overall MLT or MT laboratory experience will be utilized to rank the suitability of the applicants.
