Responsibilities
Cytotechnologists are responsible for identification and rendering of diagnostic evaluation of cytological specimens (gynecological and non-gynecological) for abnormality, evidence of malignancy, or other diseases. Signs out negative gynecological specimen reports. Serves as a member of the FNA team providing on site adequacy evaluation of endoscopic ultrasound-directed and radiology technique-based fine needle aspiration (FNA)procedures and core biopsies. Cytotechnologists also provide the support for ancillary techniques and related interpretations. Will assist in the training of new employees or cytotechnology students. May perform quality control activities. Assist cytology management personnel with the gathering of data relevant to quality assurance activities, continuous improvement activities and/or special projects. Actively partner with team members by fostering an inclusive work environment and respecting others with different backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Cytotechnology or Bachelor's degree with completion of an accredited Cytotechnology program.
Additional Skills and Qualifications:
Requires experience using databases, spreadsheets, and word processing software. Possess good written and oral communication skills, the ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes and projects. A skills assessment test will be administered at the time of interview, and a PASS score is required to be considered. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Familiar with cytopreparation techniques and specimen trouble shooting. Triaging of specimen handling. Develops knowledge and proficiency with LIS system. Adheres to workload limits and maintains accurate documentation of slide counts and microscope maintenance. Knowledge of digital pathology and/or telecytology is beneficial.
License or Certifications:
Cytologist (CT, ASCP) or Specialist in Cytology (SCT, ASCP) certification required prior to start date. Must have Florida Cytotechnologist License. Individuals licensed in Florida prior to 1991 with two years of college and a one-year Cytology training program are qualified under Federal standards. Employee obtaining CT certification(s) after January 1, 2004 or SCT certification after January 1, 2006 will be required to demonstrate evidence of ongoing maintenance of certification.
