Job Description
Screens and analyzes cellular changes that will lead to a preliminary diagnosis in gynecological and non-gynecological cases. Assists pathologists in finalizing atypical cases and helps determine the needs of patient treatment.
Job Responsibility
* Performs cytologic evaluation on GYN and Non-GYN material, including FNAs, by screening each case carefully, marking the appropriate fields for preliminary evaluation and entering the results in the lab information system. * Actively assists at FNA procedures on site by collecting clinical date, processing the specimens and communicating specimen adequacy to the radiologist/clinician and pathologist. * Performs cytopreparatory work including registering and accessioning specimens, preparing specimens for microscopic review and lab cleanup. * Performs secretarial work, including answering phones, faxing and mailing reports and preparing cases for conferences and outside review. Performs related duties, as required.

Job Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in a related science and certificate from accredited school of cytotechnology, required. Previous experience, preferred. ASCP Certification (American Society of Clinical Pathologists), required. NYS Cytotechnologist license, required. Knowledge of microscope, staining machine, centrifuge, bio-hood, Lab Information Systems, required. Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, required. Strong organizational and diagnostic skills, required.
