Job Title: Cytotechnologist
Job Description

Supervise the cytology facet of the laboratory. Use microscopic examinations to accurately interpret and classify gynecological and nongynecological cytology specimens. Prepare specimens for analysis, perform testing procedures, and document results to produce accurate and reliable test results. Evaluate microscopically non-gynecological cytology preparations accurately and according to established protocols. Screen gynecological smears for atypical cells and classify all cases according to the Bethesda system, using clinical correlation with morphological findings. Finalize reports on all normal gynecological cases accurately and in a timely manner. Refer all non-gynecological cases, as well as atypical gynecological cases, to a pathologist for final diagnosis. Prepare non-gynecological cytology specimens timely and accurately. Accession, log, and charge all cytology specimens. Perform necessary computer operations for each step. Assist with the collection of FNA specimens to determine adequacy, including rapid on-site staining. Maintain current knowledge of technical advances in cytotechnology. Perform procedures accurately and completely following established infection control practices and adhering to established standards and practices for quality assurance. Develop protocols and maintain records for quality assurance and workload. Adhere strictly to federal regulations with respect to workload restraints. Adhere to safety policies and observe universal precautions regarding handling and disposal of specimens, sharps, and chemicals. Maintain a clean and safe work environment. Promptly refer persistent problems to appropriate supervisory staff. Train new employees in cytology work performance, including preparation of cytology samples. Perform administrative supervisory functions for Histology section as assigned in the absence of the Histology Section Head. Write cytotechnology procedures and oversee cytology quality assurance under the direction of the Director of Laboratories. Actively participate in accreditation inspections, including hosting inspections as well as serving as a cytotechnology surveyor. Communicate with vendors as required. Maintain adequate inventory of supplies. Communicate effectively with administrative, medical, nursing, and other staff to ensure proper coordination and understanding of goals and objectives. Resolve technical, operational, system, and other related issues. Plan and perform work to achieve quality testing results, operate in a fiscally responsible manner to achieve operational efficiency, and adhere to established policies, practices, and procedures. Collaborate with Laboratory supervisory staff and Laboratory administration in establishing and implementing goals and objectives. Evaluate operations, quality assurance, and quality control. Recommend changes in procedures and techniques to the Director of Laboratories. Perform other duties as assigned. Perform required administrative and clerical functions to ensure proper and efficient operation.

This is a Contract-to-Hire position with a duration of 12 Month(s).

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Pennington, New Jersey.

Work Environment

Family friendly--they are Mon-Fri first shift and do not require all the extra hours and odd shifts that clinical labs do. 8:00am - 4:30pm
