ABS Global, a Genus Company, has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and driven individual. We are looking for a Dairy Genetic Programs Intern to support the Dairy Product Development area of the business. The position is located at DeForest, WI office with travel to DeForest heifer facilities. The Dairy Genetic Programs Intern has primary accountability for assisting with reproductive days (primarily IVF) with our dairy genetic nucleus donor herd, supporting the Genetic Services team, and processing herd data. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, strong organizational ability, and a willingness to travel.

 

In this position you will work 40 hours per week, typically during normal office hours, but times will range some on a day to day basis.

 

The hourly compensation range for this position is $18 USD. The compensation provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. Genus considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

You Will Assist with reproductive days (primarily IVF) with our dairy genetic nucleus donor herd.Support the Genetic Services team to align with customer expectations.Prepare data loads and process herd data through the GMS (Genetic Management System) computer program, providing professional and courteous service to internal and external customers.Create reports and conduct data analysis to ensure herd information is processed accurately, minimizing turnaround time.Maintain an understanding of genetic science to problem-solve and meet customer requests.Conduct farm visits to assist with trainings, customer meetings, and report presentations.Interact with the ABS Global Dairy Product Development team as needed.Be exposed to other departments during the internship, depending on interest.Uphold the Genus core values, mission and vision.Position may require work responsibilities outside of normal business hours.Performs other projects and responsibilities as assigned. Requirements

Basic Qualifications: (required)

Pursuing a degree in Animal Science, Dairy Science, Animal Breeding, Agricultural Business, Animal Genetics, or a related field.Currently enrolled as a sophomore, junior, senior, or recent graduate at an accredited two-year or four-year college or university.Over 1 year of practical experience handling dairy cattle.Valid driver’s license.Available for 12 weeks during the summer. Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with MS Excel.Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.Self-motivated and able to work both independently and as part of a team.Willingness to travel (approx. 30% travel, 70% office-based).High multi-tasking ability and strong organizational skills. Business Overview
