Key Responsibilities

The Enterprise Transactions, Data & Technology, and Information Security Legal Practice Group, which is part of the Office of the General Counsel, Regulatory and Governance, provides legal coverage across all business units in the areas of Procurement, Intellectual Property, Cybersecurity, Privacy, Technology Transactions, and Emerging Technologies. The position will provide counsel for some or all of the following, depending on expertise. Other duties may be required but are not listed below and specific responsibilities may change over time:

Data & Technology and Information Security:

Identify and assess risks related to compliance with privacy laws and regulations applicable to the financial services industry, including applicable federal, state, and international privacy laws such as GLBA, GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and other data breach notice laws, regulations, and guidance.Become familiar with, and provide legal advice related to, MUFG business strategies and priorities and their implications on privacy, use of data, technology architecture, data governance, and emerging technologies.Liaise with stakeholders, including Third Party Risk Management, Procurement, and Enterprise Information Security on a variety of vendor issues related to privacy, data security, artificial intelligence, and technology. Structure, draft, and negotiate commercial agreements with vendors, with a focus on technology providers.Collaborate with colleagues in MUFG’s other regional branches to coordinate efforts and optimize MUFG’s global privacy approach.

Intellectual Property:

Manage intellectual property portfolio applications, registrations, and prosecutions, including use of outside counsel to support intellectual property related engagements.Provide advice for technology-related transactional issues, including negotiating and drafting agreements, interpreting agreements to advise business units on rights and responsibilities, and performing due diligence for strategic investments and M&A deals.Experience with trademark, copyright, and internet-related legal matters in also desirable. The attorney will support all lines of business and corporate staff areas.

Qualifications

Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school and must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.1-3+ years of experience gained while in law school or otherwise in-house at a public corporation, law firm, or financial services regulatory agencyUnderstand and experience analyzing and applying federal, state, and global laws related to data privacy and data security, including regulations and requirements, such as GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, etc.Strong issue spotting, risk assessment, and problem-solving skillsExcellent written and verbal communication abilitiesAbility to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environmentStrong interpersonal skill and ability to work collaboratively with various stakeholdersFlexibility and adaptability to changing priorities and deadlines and ability to manage multiple prioritiesStrong work ethic, fast-learner and self-starter, comfortable in a fast-paced environment, ability to execute tasks in a timely manner and be responsive to internal and external stakeholders

Preferred Skills

Experience negotiating contracts, including intellectual property licensing, software license and outsourcing agreements.In-house experience in the financial services industry or technology industry.

The typical base pay range for this role is between $120K - $174K depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location. This role may also be eligible for certain discretionary performance-based bonus and/or incentive compensation.
