Job Description:

GDIT is seeking a Data Center Administrator to support the National Institutes of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID), as well as other institutes within NIH. In this role, you will be part of a team of nine system administrators / engineers responsible for maintaining, monitoring, and supporting the physical infrastructure of the institutes data centers. You will work closely with other Institutes and internal operational teams to ensure the reliability, security, and efficiency of the datacenter environments.

How a Data Center Administrator Will Make an Impact:

Collaborate with other members of the Data Center team, as well as other operations teams within NIAID to manage and maintain the datacenters according to defined policyProvide support for hardware installation, troubleshooting, repairs, and assisting with network and server configurations.Respond to emergency incidents that affect mission-essential servicesMonitor, engage, and oversee vendors and subcontractors supporting data centersInstall, configure, and decommission physical servers, network equipment, and storage systemsMonitor datacenter systems and equipment to identify and resolve issues promptly, including network connectivity, power, cooling, and hardware failuresManage network cabling, power distribution units (PDUs), and connections for all hardware.Ensure proper labeling and documentation for all cabling setupsFollow data center documentation as assignedWork with the Datacenter manager to coordinate installation and maintenance of data center equipmentTrack inventory of datacenter equipment, hardware, and consumablesManage parts, spares, and supplies required for daily operationsRack and stack servers and related devicesMaintain documentation of procedures, configurations, and incidentsPrepare reports on system performance, downtime, and maintenance schedulesAssist other team in performing root cause analysis for operational issues as they occur

What You’ll Need to Succeed:

Education:   BS/BA (or equivalent)

Required Experience:  Minimum of two years of related experience

Required Technical Skills:

Minimum of two years of experience working in data centers, network operations or hardware support roles.Network+ certificationExperience working with power systems, cooling, and environmental controls in a datacenter settingExperience with cabling standards and best practices, including CAT6 and fiberExperience working on a team to troubleshoot hardware and replace servers, switches, and storage devicesKnowledge of rack standards, including properties and selection criteria, power rail/strip options, and cold aisle/hot aisle containment

Security Clearance Level:  Must be able to obtain a NIH public trust  

Required Skills and Abilities:

Ability to quickly diagnose and resolve technical issues with minimal supervisionAbility to work in a climate-controlled datacenter environment with potential exposure to loud noise, fluctuating temperatures, and confined spacesAbility to effectively communicateAbility to move equipment up to 50 pounds 

Preferred Skills:

Familiarity with enterprise server and networking equipment from vendors, such as Dell, HP, Cisco, etc.Certified Data Center Professional (CDCP), Data Center Certified Associate (DCCA) or equivalent, Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), VMware Certified Professional (VCP), and/or CompTIA A+Familiarity with StruxureWare Data Center Expert softwareAbility to clearly document processes and proceduresExperience monitoring environmental sensors and determining issues prior to impact to systems

The likely salary range for this position is $76,690 - $94,645. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
