Complete Description:

This position, under the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO), reports through the Deputy CTO/ ICT with dotted line accountability to the Director – DC-Net.  The incumbent accepts responsibility for all operational issues at all District data center locations providing guidance and support for each data center operations manager and their respective staff.  This position requires a person extremely customer-focused, well organized, technically advanced, possessing significant experience related to data center infrastructure and operations as well as managing data center operational personnel and support/design engineers.  This position is responsible for supporting the 24/7 infrastructure (space/power/cooling/security) availability of District data centers and key network nodes.   Incumbent must be expert in the determination of power consumption levels related to the operation of IT and communications equipment along with ancillary equipment.  Also must be expert at the optimal deployment of  CRAC units and power distribution of all types, as well the optimal layout/placement of operational equipment on the data center floor.  Essential to this position is the thorough understanding of heat dissipation calculations for the appropriate placement of ICT devices to optimize data center operating environment (temperature/humidity/airflow) levels optimizing equipment performance and life. 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities

•             Act as lead resource providing on-site project management support for data center design, optimization or build-out.

•             Establish data center rationalization.

•             Assess the current IT and facility (MEP) infrastructures.

•             Collect IT asset and MEP configurations.

•             Identify vulnerabilities and optimize opportunities.

•             Develop facility recommendations with cost benefit analysis.

•             Establish target site requirements and architecture.

•             Analyze gaps between current and target site operating capabilities.

•             Act as primary contact and counsel to Senior Management.

•             Oversee project in its entirety from proposal to implementation.

•             Develop budget and project plans during the analysis and design phase of the project.

•             Create and develop conceptual designs based on business analysis working with Architects.

•             Responsible for the development of all RFI and RFP documents required for bid leveling.

•             Conduct meetings according to scope of the project including construction, technology and management meetings.

•             Exhibit leadership characteristics: strong communication skills, full understanding of internal policies, group and individual management.

•             Carry out such additional or alternative duties which are reasonably consistent with their position as may be required.
