Data Center Electrical Technician

The Data Center Electrical Technician leads and supports operation, inspection, and maintenance processes of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing equipment and systems in a Data Center environment. This role has responsibilities and expectations to include demonstrating diverse technical aptitude in multiple craft areas (electrical, HVAC, plumbing) and be multi-skilled in all others in order to successfully repair, maintain, restore, and replace various building operational components independently and as a part of a team while maintaining 100% uptime and operational reliability.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

· Utilize Computer Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) work order system to manage the timely completion of all preventative and corrective maintenance assignments.

· Provide support for team members to ensure work orders and preventive maintenance tasks are completed in compliance with Service Level Agreements and site / client-specific Key Performance Indicators.

· Experience building circuits per circuit build sheet and installing in a data center environment within an underfloor plenum (pulling appropriate size wire in flexible conduits, using megameter, tagging circuits, routing safely from server location to PDU/RPP and landing conductors within panel).

· Diagnose, inspect, repair, and maintain electrical components including all types lamp replacement, ballast replacement, fixtures, motors, basic diagram components, comprehend basic wiring components, etc

· Test and calibrate electronic HVAC and building environmental controls to ensure proper equipment operation.

· Monitor operations and conduct routine and on-going assessment of the building systems and equipment.

· Manage emergency situations by strictly adhering to established complex utility/electrical/mechanical switching scripts and procedures (i.e. - MOPs, SOPs and Change Management processes).

· Perform quality inspections on all spaces and systems including roofs and equipment rooms and complete necessary repairs.

· Operator level maintenance of electrical and HVAC systems (chillers, pumps, cooling towers, computer room air handlers, air handlers, exhaust fans, humidifiers, diesel generator systems, uninterruptible Power Systems (UPS), Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS), batteries, electrical switchgear, breakers, and protective relays.

· Continuously look for ways to add value to the customer, identifying areas for improvements that lead to increased reliability, improving the working environment for the customer and extending the equipment life.

· Other tasks as assigned by Operations and Engineering leadership

· Perform all duties in a safe and comply with all Company policies and procedures; adhere to Company standards of business ethics and conduct.

· Establish and maintain strong working relations with other staff and building tenants and communicate in a clear and concise manner.

· Be available to support critical operations, emergencies, special events as well as rotational on-call duties.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:

· High School diploma or GED equivalent required.

· 5-15 years of verifiable experience and/or 4-year apprenticeship program and minimum 5-8 years practical experience or related technical training.

· Preferred/not required - five or more years of field experience in Critical Facilities and/or Data Center environment.

· Must have valid state driver’s license.

· Proficient in Microsoft Windows-based software is preferred but not required.

· Preferred/not required - five or more years of field experience in Critical Facilities and/or Data Center environment.

· Must possess the skills strong technical knowledge to troubleshoot, self-perform equipment and system repairs; other than major OEM tear down maintenance.

· Experience/familiarity with operations of BACS (Trane, JCI, Automated Logic, Honeywell, Siemens).

· Familiarization of or willingness to learn operationally about other (Building Automated Controls) such as electrical, Lighting.

· Familiarization of or willingness to learn digital control systems (fire alarm, card access, CCTV).

· Experience or willingness to learn operations of equipment in a critical environment (UPS & Stand-by Power systems), environmental regulations, local building codes, fire and safety systems, preventive and predictive maintenance programs required.

· Familiarization in preparing accessing job hazards and co-developing MOPs for planned work preferred.
