Job Description:

Data Center Operations Group, has a requirement for a well-qualified Data Center Infrastructure Support Technician.  The candidate will be a member of a cross-functional team of engineers and technicians supporting the District’s data centers facilities. 

Job Requirements:

•             Solid working knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems including switchgear, backup diesel generators, uninterruptible power supplies, power distribution units, Computer Room Air Conditioners, security monitoring systems, and fire detection/suppression systems.

•             Demonstrated experience in project management including managing technical consultants and outside contractors.

•             Understanding of NFPA/NEC documents, EIA/TIA standards, building codes, and safety practices.

•             Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•             Knowledge and experience with the Microsoft Office suite.

•             Ability to write clear, concise reports and emails accurately and with excellent English grammar.

•             Ability to learn and maintain implemented Data Center Infrastructure Management/Building Management (DCIM/BIM) software system(s).

•             Solid understanding and familiarity with both copper and optical (fiber) interconnection media and connectors as used for network and computer/storage platform connectivity.

•             Solid understanding of equipment installation practices and the effects of mounting choices/locations and cable dress in a dense operating environment.

•             Basic understanding of Server, SAN, and Network technologies.

•             Familiar with power distribution and management for data center production hardware and infrastructure support equipment.

•             Familiarity and understanding of DC power distribution and wiring practices as employed in the telecommunications industry.

•             Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems and networking hardware.

•             Ability to properly use common hand and power tools properly and safely and maintain safe and secure work areas.

•             Ability to drive to the various District Data Centers and support sites.

•             Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.

•             Valid US drivers license.

CONTRACT LABOR CATEGORY DESCRIPTION

Responsibilities:

1. Provides technical direction and engineering knowledge for communications activities including planning, designing, developing, testing, installing and maintaining large communications networks.

2. Ensures that adequate and appropriate planning is provided to direct building architects and planners in building communications spaces and media pathways meet industry standards.

3. Develops, operates, and maintains voice, wireless, video, and data communications systems.

4. Provides complex engineering or analytical tasks and activities associated with one or more technical areas within the communications function.

 

Minimum Education/Certification Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience.

Skills:

6-10 yrs developing, operating and maintaining voice, wireless video, and data comm. Systems.
