Summary:
Reports to Manager Data Architecture. The Data Developer is responsible for designing building and maintaining scalable performant and resilient data systems. Creates automated tooling to support the operationalization of complex data pipelines ensuring data solutions align with business objectives. Mentors junior team members collaborates across departments and leverages on premise and cloud-native technologies to develop data-focused automation products that drive innovation within our healthcare organization. Streamlines data management workflows improves data quality fosters collaboration and provides a solid foundation for informed decision-making across the healthcare system.
Responsibilities:
Designs builds and maintains large-scale data processing tools data engineers will use these tools to ensure data pipelines are efficient scalable and secure. The tools access multiple vendor supplied and home-grown data warehouses and lakes to ensure data pipelines are efficient scalable and secure and to enable data engineers to reduce data duplication and inefficiencies.
Develops and/or customizes multi-use data profiling tools to create automated documentation and profiles of data that reside in databases flat files or cloud-based environments.
Develops and/or customizes multi-use data validation and mapping tools that can interpret and act on a variety of data validation and mapping rules generated by the data engineering team to allow for automated alerting of engineering staff when discrepancies or anomalies are found.
Builds and/or customizes data processing tools that ingest and integrate information from a diverse array of sources including clinical inputs from suppliers financial transactions human resources and other services third-party information and even unstructured data from tools as ubiquitous as Excel spreadsheets and online forms.
Leads the design and development of Extract Transform Load (ETL) tooling as well as tools that assess and ensure the integrity of data movement transformation code and large datasets.
Designs builds and maintains data focused interactive intranet pages ensuring these pages provide necessary capabilities to data focused staff as well as staff organization wide.
Builds and/or customizes data modeling and data catalog systems that will be populated by data engineers and utilized by co-workers across the organization.
Assists data scientists with the development and/or customization of tools that automate data science work including the automation of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning products developed by data scientists.
Mentors and guides junior data developers fosters a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
Produces training materials on a variety of topics for use by data specialists across the organization.
Works in tandem with internal data governance bodies to advocate for safer more secure and more effective data procedures.
Writes detailed documentation for data processes tooling and webpages.
Innovates to contribute to cloud migration initiatives data infrastructure modernization and system optimization efforts.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
Bachelor�s Degree in STEM-related field or equivalent.
Proficient in Structured Query Language (SQL) Python JavaScript and PHP.
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
Experience:
Four years� experience in coding and tool development with strong proficiency in SQL Python JavaScript and PHP.
Two years� experience developing automation tools for use by colleagues or customers that enable team members to complete work more effectively.
Experience designing and operationalizing complex solutions.
Firsthand experience with cloud platforms data warehousing and ETL design.
Experience in healthcare data management and familiarity with healthcare industry standards is preferred.
Demonstrated experience mentoring junior data developers and collaborating across teams.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Skilled in rigorous and automated data validation techniques.
Well versed in data documentation methods that prioritize a return on investment of documentation time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the visual and manual dexterity to operate a computer.
This is a remote position with the option to travel to sites in Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts as needed.
Employee will be responsible to establish a secure workspace environment to protect the confidentiality of sensitive information. Sensitive information includes confidential information protected health information (PHI) and protected identifiable information (PII).
Employee will be responsible for costs associated with setting up furnishing and managing their remote employee workspace and for costs of maintaining appropriate internet connectivity to access Brown University Health Information Services resources.

Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required.
