Data Engineer

Responsible as a hands-on developer for the development, scalability, and stability of the data platform and pipelines, software and infrastructure, that effectively produce value-add data products, including collaboration with business partners, data architects, and other developers to align platform capabilities with business needs. 

 

KEY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

Designs and develops new and/or existing systems software applications to meet current and future business needs. 

Partners with IT data engineering & product teams, architects and managers to enable decision support and key insights across the organization. 

Works with internal IT teams and cross-functional teams to monitor data platform performance and optimize analytical capabilities, ensuring minimal downtime and quick resolution of issues. 

Works closely with subject matter experts and business stakeholders to identify, design, and develop efficient, end-to-end, high-quality data pipelines and models, and integrates them into product and business system workflows. 

Builds and maintains the infrastructure required for optimal transformation and integration from a wide variety of data sources using appropriate data integration technologies. Deploys pipelines using scheduling and orchestration frameworks. 

Serves as owner/steward for data, managing complex data systems for the Enterprise Data team. 

Owns core data pipelines that power the organization’s analytical metrics. Provides insights, monitors applications, handles user tickets, and analyzes and resolves data issues.

Applies data expertise to help architect, build, and launch scalable data pipelines to support the Company’s growing data processing and analytics needs. 

Implements data governance practices in partnership with business stakeholders and peers. 

Ideates and creates proof of concepts per business requirements. Translates data and analytics needs from business partners into executable programs and ensures successful implementation. 

Owns the continuous integration processes of our data pipelines that are built, tested, and released on various data orchestration frameworks. 

Provides production support to resolve critical data pipeline and application issues, mitigating or minimizing any impact on data products and downstream analytics tools. 

Contributes to data & engineering innovations to support the Company’s strategic initiatives. 

Performs other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required, assigned, and directed. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems or related field. 

Experience: Minimum of 6+ years data engineering/developer experience in building and supporting data intensive applications, to include the following: 5-6 years experience with data management architectures (Data Warehouse, Data Lake, Data Hub) and supporting processes (data integration, governance, metadata management), DevOps capabilities (version control, automated builds, and release management tools using Git, Jenkins, etc.) 

5 years experience with Mastery in SQL and with advanced analytics tools for object-oriented/scripting languages (Python, Java, Scala, etc.) 

4 years experience designing, deploying, and maintaining data engineering pipelines and artifacts on Snowflake, DBT, Fivetran, Airflow & AWS stack, leveraging services such as EC2, ECS, Lambdas, AWS Step functions, Redshift, Tableau, AWS Glue 

Experience with on-prem & relational platforms Oracle, SQL Server, PostGres , MySQL etc., and integration of cloud services with on premise technologies 

Experience with data modeling, data mining, and predictive analysis 

Experience in leveraging Observability tools such as Splunk/Datadog/New Relic/MonteCarlo or equivalent 


Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: 

Advanced knowledge of SQL and NOSQL database concepts. 

Hands-on experience with infrastructure engineering, infrastructure-as-code, modern DevOps processes, CI/CD, CircleCI and GitHub. 

Ability to work with and manage cloud data technologies, such as Data Streams , Kinesis FireHose, SnowPipe Streaming, Kafka, ElasticSearch, Terraform, etc. 

Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills; works collaboratively. 

Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. 

Ability to juggle multiple projects, tasks, and deadlines, with attention to detail. 

Takes ownership for results and works effectively in an agile environment 

Takes accountability for analysis and technical enhancements that drive a business at a large scale. 

Is a self-starter, initiating and driving projects to completion with minimal guidance. 

Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and applications (Excel, Teams, Outlook) 

Demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior. 


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to speak/hear clearly in person and on the telephone. Ability to operate a computer keyboard.

The range for this position is $135,400 - $189,600 and is based on an employee located at our corporate headquarters in San Diego. If the candidate is hired in a different city to work remote, we will apply a geographic pay differential based on the cost of labor in the market in which the employee resides.
