Job Description

As a Data Engineer at Ensign-Bickford Industries, Inc. you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining robust data pipelines, business workflows, and custom database event processes. Embedded within the EBI Data & Analytics Team, your expertise will support our data-driven culture while exploring AI/ML capabilities to support EBI’s winning vision. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver high-quality, scalable data solutions that meet the organization’s evolving needs. 

You will also be expected to bring a continuous improvement mindset to the role, actively seeking opportunities to optimize processes, enhance solution performance, and incorporate industry best practices into the integration lifecycle. By fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency, you will help ensure our data integration capabilities remain reliable, agile, and aligned with business objectives.

Job Responsibilities

Partner with business stakeholders and IT Teams to gather technical requirements, including data mappings, transformations, and data flows.

Design and develop efficient ETL pipelines for data collection, transformation, and storage from diverse sources (MSSQL, Oracle, ERP, LIMS, MES).

Utilize business workflows and event-driven architecture to inject custom functionality into IFS ERP, enhancing system performance.

Maintain and update comprehensive documentation on data flow, lineage, and dependencies.

Implement automated validation, monitoring, and troubleshooting processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and performance.

Adhere to data strategy, policies, controls, and programs to ensure the enterprise data is accurate, complete, secure, and reliable.

Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies to continually improve data processing and management capabilities. This includes data lakes, data warehouses and cloud services.

Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in processes, workflows, and system performance.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience.

Minimum 5 years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, preferably in industries using ERP, LIMS, or MES systems.

Extensive experience and in-depth knowledge of relational database management systems (RDBMS), including but not limited to MSSQL, Oracle, and Azure SQL Database. Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain complex database solutions, ensuring data integrity, performance optimization, and security compliance. Proficient in writing and optimizing complex SQL queries and experienced with PL/SQL for developing stored procedures, functions, and triggers.

Knowledge of ETL development lifecycle principles, data pipelines and data transformation methods (e.g. SSIS, Boomi)

Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and data security best practices

Proven team player who thrives in a collaborative environment.

Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing business needs.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

Proven track record of implementing data-driven solutions in enterprise environments.

Experience in data model design to support reporting in data warehouse.

Excellent problem-solving skills with ability to troubleshoot complex data issues. Knowledge of LEAN Problem Solving a plus.

Custom ERP system development a plus. (e.g. Custom events, custom scripting)

Familiarity with AI/ML applications in business contexts a plus.

Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming languages and tools such as Python, SQL, and data visualization tools like PowerBI or Tableau a plus.
