HOW A DATA ENGINEER EXPERT WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

Assist with design of Java EE/Jakarta EE software using object-oriented design patternsContribute to the development and improvement of our data infrastructure, using open-source technologies and cloud-native servicesResponsible for migrating data from legacy software applications stored in databasesCreate well-designed and tested code using best practices for web development, including for responsive design and mobile displayMonitor and solve data pipelines, proactively identifying and resolving issues to maintain high availabilityIntegrate data from various back-end services and databasesDesign, develop, document, test and debug applications software and systems that contain algorithmic and mathematical solutions.Develop applications to solve highly complex technical challengesManage and orchestrate our data pipelinesBuild and maintain systems that collect, manage, and convert data into usable informationDebug software problems and provide solutionsDevelop software requirementsDocument verification and validation of solution sets and protocolsPerform routine site audits, as well as ongoing maintenance, on an as-needed basis Participate actively in agile development sprints, contributing to sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectivesEnsure compliance with software standards

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

Education:Bachelor’s degree (in computer science, engineering or mathematics)Required Experience:Twenty (20)  years of related experienceSecurity Clearance Level:Must be clearable for a position of Public Trust and standard background investigation checkRequired Skills and Abilities:Extensive experience using Java EE/Jakarta EE/ Scala, Python, and RExperience with ORM frameworks (Eclipselink, Hibernate)Experience working within an Agile development environmentExperience with DevOps CI/CD utilizing technologies such as GIT/Bitbucket, TerraForm and Jenkins (i.e. deployment pipeline automation)Experience implementing various software life cycles including Agile/ScrumExperience with Ansible and/or containerization/virtualization desired (ex: Docker, Podman, Skopeo, Buildah, Kubernetes, Openshift)Hands on experience with Big Data Platforms: Cloudera, Horton Works, Hadoop, Data Bricks, Data RobotLinux knowledge/experienceExtensive knowledge of SQL, XML JSON, YAML, and experience with relational databasesFamiliar with Big Data architecture and solutionsFamiliar with Data Ingestion ArchitectureExperience with Kinetica, GPU based computingExperience working with Data Lakes, Big Data Platforms hosted on AWSDemonstrated strength in solving complex problemsPreferred Experience, Skills, and/or Certifications:FAA National Airspace System (NAS) experienceTraffic Flow Management (TFM) experienceAgile certification (PMI-ACP or SAFe certification)Location:Hybrid | Falls Church Virginia & Washington DC Area

The likely salary range for this position is $166,280 - $224,968. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
