Data Engineer
The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining the data pipelines and infrastructure required for Pareto’s solutions, with a concentration on our Quality Solutions. This role will involve working with large datasets, including claims, clinical data, member feedback, and other performance metrics, to ensure accurate and efficient data processing that supports Star Rating performance monitoring, forecasting, and Rewards & Incentives Programs. You will collaborate closely with product managers, data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders to provide the foundational data infrastructure for quality measurement, analysis, forecasting and management. Key Responsibilities: * Data Pipeline Development and Maintenance: * Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and store data from various sources (e.g., eligibility, claims, HEDIS, CAHPS, HOS). * Ensure efficient data flow across systems, ensuring data is available for analysis and reporting on Star Ratings in a timely manner. * Optimize data pipelines for performance, reliability, and accuracy, ensuring seamless integration with analytics tools and dashboards. * Data Integration and Architecture: * Integrate various healthcare data sources (e.g., claims data, member feedback, clinical outcomes, operational performance) into centralized data warehouses or data lakes. * Collaborate with other engineering team members to design and implement the data architecture that supports large-scale data processing and reporting. * Ensure the data architecture meets regulatory compliance requirements (e.g., HIPAA) and aligns with Star Analytics product development. * Data Quality and Validation: * Implement and maintain automated data validation and quality checks to ensure the integrity of the data used. * Collaborate with data analysts to troubleshoot data issues and ensure the accuracy and consistency of performance metrics. * Monitor data quality and work proactively to resolve discrepancies, errors, or missing data. * Performance Optimization: * Work closely with Client Advisory teams, data scientists and analysts to optimize queries, reporting tools, and databases to ensure functionality meets client needs for fast and efficient data retrieval, especially when dealing with large healthcare datasets. * Implement data indexing, partitioning, and other techniques to improve query performance for Star Ratings analysis. * Collaboration and Cross-Functional Support: * Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, Product Managers, Client Advisory and other business stakeholders, to understand their data needs and deliver the necessary infrastructure for product expansion. * Support data analysts and business intelligence teams in querying and analyzing Star Ratings data for reporting and performance improvement. * Provide expertise in data architecture and engineering to ensure the successful implementation of Star Ratings analytics products. * Compliance and Security: * Ensure that all data engineering practices adhere to relevant regulations, including HIPAA and other healthcare data privacy standards. * Implement security protocols to protect sensitive healthcare data, including encryption, access control, and audit trails. * Continuous Improvement: * Stay current with advancements in data engineering technologies and methodologies, applying them to improve the efficiency and scalability of data infrastructure. * Provide recommendations for improvements in data storage, processing, and analytical tools to enhance the overall Star Analytics products. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES * Responsible for compliance with all federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations affecting Convey Health Solutions. * Responsible for participating in quality assurance, compliance and in-service and continuing education activities as requested by Convey Health Solutions. * Responsible for performing other duties and responsibilities as required. Required Skills and Qualifications: * Educational Background: * Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred. * Experience: * 3-5 years of experience in data engineering, with a focus on healthcare data, performance metrics, or analytics. * Experience working with healthcare data systems (e.g., claims data, HEDIS, CAHPS) and understanding of CMS Star Ratings is highly preferred. * Experience building and maintaining data pipelines using ETL tools and programming languages (e.g., SQL, Python, Apache Spark, Hadoop). * Proficiency in working with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and big data technologies. * Technical Skills: * Strong experience with SQL and data warehousing technologies (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake, BigQuery). * Familiarity with data pipeline orchestration tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Dagster). * Knowledge of data modeling, data lakes, and building scalable, fault-tolerant data architectures. * Experience with data processing frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark, Kafka) and cloud data storage systems (e.g., S3, HDFS). * Knowledge of BI tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and experience integrating data for reporting purposes. * Analytical Skills: * Strong problem-solving abilities, particularly in handling large, complex datasets. * Ability to identify performance bottlenecks and optimize data workflows for faster processing. * Communication and Collaboration: * Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders to understand their data needs. * Ability to work cross-functionally with data analysts, data scientists, business stakeholders, and IT teams. Preferred Qualifications: * Experience with healthcare quality measures and performance metrics (e.g., HEDIS, CAHPS, HOS). * Familiarity with data governance and healthcare compliance standards (e.g., HIPAA, data privacy regulations). * Experience with machine learning or AI algorithms in healthcare data applications.
