Bunzl is currently seeing a Data Engineer to work as part of our PACS Division (processor, agriculture, convenience store and safety segments).
The Data Engineer will play a crucial role in designing, developing, and maintaining our data infrastructure. The role will have a primary focus on software integrations, ensuring seamless data flow between various systems and applications. The Data Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to gather requirements, support data-driven decision-making and enhance our data capabilities and business intelligence solutions.

Responsibilities:
Develop and maintain data pipelines to integrate data from various sources, including databases, APIs, and third-party applications. Establish and maintain datasets from multiple systems to improve data quality and efficiency. Design and test architectures that enable data extraction and transformation for prescriptive and predictive data modeling. Design and implement ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability from ERP systems. Work with software developers, data scientists, and business analysts to gather and understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs. Engage directly with stakeholders to maintain open communication of project specifications and to provide feedback and regular updates (via calls, meetings, reports, presentations, and demonstrations) on projects throughout the development lifecycle. Monitor and optimize data quality by implementing validation and cleansing processes. Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for data integration processes, workflows and ETL pipelines. Work with regional businesses to implement software applications for multiple departments as well as assist in the data migration to Databricks. Work closely with stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver solutions that meet business needs. Identify and resolve data-related issues and discrepancies in a timely manner. Support multiple businesses by ensuring seamless data flow across various ERPs and software systems. Perform ad hoc queries against the data warehouse to provide quick answers to various business challenges. Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies to continuously improve data integration practices. Monitor and optimize data processes for performance and reliability. Provide as needed support outside of normal business hours.Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field preferred; or equivalent work experience Relevant certifications in data engineering or cloud platforms preferred Proficient in SQL, Python, Apache Spark, and APIs Experience with ERP software, Databricks, SQL Server, and Microsoft Excel Skilled in Power BI, DAX, Visual Studio, SSMS, and creating dashboards and reports using SSRS Understanding of database management systems, data warehousing, and data governance concepts, as well as knowledgeable in Azure, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Synapse and familiar with Azure DevOps, Git, and Databricks Asset Bundles Proficient in data modeling, data transformation, ETL pipelines, and ensuring data validation and quality Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and demonstrated ability to apply technology in solving business problems Ensures data accuracy and integrity Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present ideas in user-friendly language to team members and stakeholders Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment Excellent project management, organizational and planning skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks, projects and meet deadlines Outstanding attention to detail, flexibility and creativity Exercise discretion and good judgment, work with minimal supervision, and maintain confidentiality of shared information and/or assignments Occasional out-of-state travel
