Data Engineer

Mikinok Enterprises is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Data Engineer to join our innovative team. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure to support our data-driven initiatives. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the availability, reliability, and performance of our data systems and solutions.
Responsibilities
Data Pipeline Development
+ Design, implement, and optimize end-to-end data pipelines for ingesting, processing, and transforming large volumes of structured and unstructured data.
+ Develop robust ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes to integrate data from diverse sources into our data ecosystem.
+ Implement data validation and quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Data Modeling and Architecture
+ Design and maintain data models, schemas, and database structures to support analytical and operational use cases.
+ Develop and maintain database standards, including naming conventions, normalization, and table structures.
+ Optimize data storage and retrieval mechanisms for performance and scalability.
Data Integration and Ingestion
+ Build and maintain integrations with internal and external data sources and APIs.
+ Ensure compatibility and interoperability between different systems and platforms.
Data Infrastructure Management
+ Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement optimizations to enhance reliability and efficiency.
+ Monitor and implement optimizations related to data usage and computation costs.
+ Implement data security controls and access management policies to protect sensitive information.
Collaboration and Documentation
+ Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver tailored solutions.
+ Document technical designs, workflows, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain system documentation.
+ Be an active member of the committee that oversees PII governance as well as access controls.
Requirements
+ At minimum, a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
+ 3-5 Years of relevant experience
+ Proven experience in data engineering, software development, or related roles.
+ Proficiency in programming languages commonly used in data engineering (e.g., Python, SQL, etc.).
+ Strong knowledge of database systems, data modeling techniques, and SQL proficiency.
+ Proficiency with ETL methods and principals.
+ Experience with data warehousing technologies like Databricks or similar.
+ Experience with data warehousing techniques such as medallion architecture, etc.
+ Experience with big data technologies and frameworks (e.g., Spark, Kafka, etc.).
+ Experience with JDBC and Delta Live Table pipeline will be a plus
+ Familiarity with cloud platforms and services. AWS is preferred, and knowledge of services such as S3, DMS, Lambda, Kafka will be a plus.
+ Experience with CDC (Change Data Capture) is desired.
+ Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
+ Effective communication and collaboration skills in a team-oriented environment.
+ Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and business requirements.
+ Experience working in the financial industry or fintech is a plus.
+ Prior startup experience will be a plus

Location and Travel
Mikinok Enterprises is headquartered in Belcourt, North Dakota, with offices in Minneapolis, San Diego, and Atlanta. This position will be located at our Minneapolis office. Mikinok Enterprises expects a hybrid work environment with a two-day office policy. Travel should be relatively limited, around 5% per month when needed.
