Data Engineer - Specialist

Reporting to the A/NZ DSE Chapter Manager India PEC  within Decision Sciences & Engineering, this role will own and be responsible for the data & analytic engineering chapter in India PEC.

The Data Engineer is an essential part of the business that enables the team to support the ongoing acquisition and internal purposing of data, through to the fulfilment of products, insights and systems. As a Data Engineer, you will be responsible for working with our internal customers to ensure that data and systems are being designed and built to move and manipulate data in a scalable, reusable and efficient manner to suit the environment, project, security and requirements.

As the leader for the Data & Analytics Engineering India PEC team, you will be directly managing the work of engineers as well as working alongside other chapters and teams within Decision Sciences & Engineering (DSE) and Technology, across India PEC, Australia and New Zealand. You will have a dotted line into the Data & Analytics Engineering A/NZ Chapter lead to ensure there is consistency in the practices that are used to enable A/NZ outcomes.

You will build, adopt and support end-to-end data platforms and solutions. You will be responsible for technical enablers of data capabilities including ingestion, purposing, curation, analytics, modeling, fulfilment, deletion and governance. The team will leverage global Equifax platforms, other tools and technologies, and build new tools where required to support the business.

This individual should have broad experience with large volumes of data associated with entities such as persons or business, preferably with Equifax data assets. He/she should have broad experience with Cloud platforms and be knowledgeable of industry trends, best practice and use of AI

Resource Management

Be a single business contact point for India PEC data & analytic engineers

Maintain a resource management strategy to meet current and evolving enterprise needs and market trends; ensure our people & skills supports our continued market leadership

Create a strategic vision and roadmap for maximising the value of the people  in your area of remit across the various types of activities, from incidents to innovation. Establish appropriate KPIs and metrics to ensure effective utilisation and satisfaction levels of personnel.

Create a commercial value culture - promote the use of data driven decisioning, helping to shift mindsets, modernise thinking and challenge existing practices so that everyone understands the value of our people & resources.

Attend conferences and create or adopt best practices for skills mix.

Input into Annual Investment  planning, and prioritisation forums in coordination with the ANZ Strategy Team to enforce feasibility of meeting strategic and tactical outcomes.

Support quarterly program increment (PI) planning with solutions with other cross-functional leaders and therefore appropriate resource allocation to fully resource prioritised items. Balance workloads to ensure full utilisation - not under or over.

Skills Management

Maintain and manage a skills repository across data, tools, languages, soft / hard skills, machine learning, and skills certification. Oversee and audits the integrity, usability of all skills.

Review skills mix and address imbalances. Create strategies and inform backfill requests or new requisitions to fill gaps and reallocate / retrain people where skills are over-indexed or working on low value activities. Move people to other specialisations where their work has become more relevant to another specialisation. Review use of global and market job profiles for local utilisation as new tools and skill needs evolve.

Manage people related risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies.

Remain aware of emerging trends in our market and those specific to our sector which impact future asset management strategies

Standards & Best Practices

Adopt, develop and maintain global and specialist engineering standards within handbooks and other mediums.

Ensure work being conducted by individuals / teams adheres to the various standards based on the type of work they are conducting whether or not they belong to that specialisation or team. 

Build capability maturity pathways for individuals & teams, assessing their work against the assets they have created, identifying best practices to continually improve the solutions created by the team.

Minimise key person risk through work rotation, process / knowledge / training documentation, and creation of new starter materials.

Data  & Technical Capability

Develop and maintain data models, ensuring data quality, consistency, and accessibility for various internal stakeholders.

Automate data processes and workflows using scripting languages like Python, leveraging technologies like Spark and Airflow.

Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in GCP and related technologies, actively proposing and evaluating new solutions.

Mentor and guide junior data engineers, sharing knowledge and best practices to foster a high-performing team.

Deliver design based on a broad knowledge of technology in general and deep knowledge of data platforms, particularly cloud-based, big data systems.

An understanding about the uses and implementation of AI in Data Engineering

Continuous Improvement

Work with the business to introduce new technologies and capabilities, while consolidating and decommissioning existing.

Focus on Simplification, Automation and Digitisation of solutions reducing total cost of ownership over time, and freeing up other DSE team members to do less menial and more meaningful work.

Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines, continuously improving the process and systems that EFX has to manage and govern data, and identifying and resolving performance issues proactively.


What experience you need 
 

BS degree in a STEM major or equivalent discipline; Master’s Degree strongly preferred

8+ years of experience as a data engineer or related role, with experience demonstrating leadership capabilities

A well-balanced view of resource management, thinking creatively and effectively to deploy the team whilst building skills for the future

Skilled in internal networking, negotiating and proactively developing individuals and teams to be the best they can be

Strong communicator & presenter, bringing everyone on the journey.

Expert level skills using programming languages such as Python or SQL and advanced level experience with scripting languages.

Demonstrated proficiency in all Google Cloud Services

Experience building and maintaining complex data pipelines, troubleshooting complex  issues, transforming and entering data into a data pipeline in order for the content to be digested and usable for future projects; Proficiency in Airflow strongly desired

Experience designing and implementing advanced to complex data models and experience enabling advanced optimisation to improve performance

Knowledge of Big Data technology and tools with the ability to share ideas among a collaborative team and drive the team based on technical expertise and learning, sharing best practices

Excellent communication skills to engage with senior management, internal customers and product management

Sound understanding of regulations and security requirements governing access to data in Big Data systems

Sound understanding of Insight delivery systems for batch and online

Should be able to run Agile Scrum-based projects
