The Chief Data Officer of the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, Jeff Leek, established the Fred Hutch Data Science Lab (DaSL), which aims to develop and support the overall data strategy for the organization. The mission of the DaSL to ensure an effective data ecosystem at Fred Hutch by developing a modern, well documented, well implemented, overall data strategy. The OCDO Data Engineering Manager will manage a team of data and technology focused engineering staff supporting the development of new translational data infrastructure and user-facing applications. This role will oversee the implementation of scalable, stable, and secure solutions in our centrally managed, cloud-based translational data infrastructure. The team will be responsible for managing data ingestion pipelines from internal and external sources, quality control, and processing, as well as overall technology governance and system administration. With support from the Data Product Management team, will interface with various IT teams and business stakeholders to support the delivery and evolution of data intensive applications and tooling. The Data Engineering Manager will direct the technical team responsible for implementing and supporting ongoing application development and integrations to support data science, precision oncology and AI use cases. This role collaborates closely with other teams in the OCDO, specifically the Data Science & Software team as well as the Data Governance team to prioritize new capabilities and ensure governance grows along with those needs.

Responsibilities Provide subject matter expertise and oversight to ensure Fred Hutch’s translational data infrastructure is secure, compliant, and aligns with Fred Hutch’s functional and technical requirements for data science, precision oncology and AI. QualificationsMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
BA/BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Software Engineering, Software Development, Data Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.7+ years of experience supporting or developing data infrastructure and technology systems with increasing technical and leadership responsibilities.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Significant experience with modern software development practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, and cloud-native architectures.Experience developing infrastructure as code and implementing version control patterns including supporting code standards and code review across members of a team.Experience with working with modern data architectures as well as data management tooling, Databricks is preferred.Experience with Agile software development methodologies.Significant expertise with common programming/code languages and data transformation tooling, such as Python, SQL, Apache Spark, dbt, etc.Experience working in highly regulated data environments, ideally with prior healthcare or research experience, including familiarity with HIPAA regulations.Experience with collaboration tools (Teams, Slack, Jira, Confluence).Strong analytical, organizational, and time management skills.Interest and desire to innovate and learn in the healthcare and research data science and AI space and be part of a rapidly growing team.Prior experience in managing engineering staff and building a team.A statement describing your commitment and contributions toward greater diversity, equity, inclusion, and antiracism in your career or that will be made through your work at Fred Hutch is requested of all finalists.
The annual base salary range for this position is from $137,260 to $216,923, and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
