**_This is a Year-Round Internship. We are looking for students who can commit to work up to 15-20 hours per week during the academic year in the Fall/Spring and 40 hours per week during the summer. The anticipated start date will be in May (Summer) of 2024._**
**PURPOSE:**
The Data Governance Intern role exists as a hire strategy to bring in incumbents enrolled in an accredited college or university who are pursuing a bachelors degree in a Information Technology or related field who can learn the business and technical side of Data Governance and Stewardship from the ground up. The incumbent will spend the majority of their time assisting in ensuring the integrity of data between the various front-end CareFirst production and operational systems and backend operational data stores and warehouses. The incumbent will also participate in the design and development of systems and applications related to data warehousing and business intelligence/business analytics. This is a fast-paced, collaborative and iterative environment requiring quick learning, agility and flexibility.
**PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:**
Under the leadership and direction of a Data Governance Manager, the principal duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following in a continuous learning environment:
+ Work with multiple systems to extract, integrate and use large volumes of data for deeper analysis
+ Review data quality issues and help resolve issues collaborating with the Data Governance team and other business functions.
+ Review Master Data records for potential matches using the Informatica Master Data Management tool.
+ User Acceptance testing: create SQL queries in Snowflake to validate source and target datasets.
+ Document and track project defects in JIRA
+ Generate clear and concise documentation for project-based work.
**QUALIFICATIONS:**
**Required**
Undergraduate student enrolled in an accredited college or university at either the Junior/Senior level with a GPA of 3.25 or above. Student should be pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline. Graduate level students will also be considered.
**Abilities/Skills**
Students should possess the following skills:
+ Beginner data mining experience: ability to learn and construct SQL queries to effectively analyze datasets in data hub (warehouse).
+ Strong research, analytical, written and oral communication skills.
+ Ability to demonstrate problem solving skills and willingness to learn.
+ Willingness to work with and learn new technologies: ie data governance application, MDM application, data quality application.
+ Beginner design work and/or use of relational databases including working with dimensional modeling, star schemas and time-series data.
+ Basic knowledge of reporting applications and tools including MS Excel, Access, Word, SQL database querying.
**Salary Range:** $18,720 - $26,000

The hire range posted is an annual rate. All intern positions will be paid hourly and will be discussed during the screening and interview process.
