Data Modeller (PB Tech - Data Capability) (9820)

Description

Investec Sandton is looking for an experienced Data Modeler in the Private Bank Tech Data Team to fulfil responsibilities revolving collecting, processing, analysing and modelling large sets of data to derive meaningful insights and aid decision-making across all streams within the Private Bank landscape. The Private Bank Data team provides ample opportunity to model in the Azure Technical stack as well as working with different business data sets, architecture and strategies.

Experience, skill and capability

1.    Data Collection and Cleansing: Gather data from various sources, such as databases, data warehouses, or external data feeds and ensure data quality by cleaning and validating datasets to eliminate errors, inconsistencies, or missing values. You may also work with data engineers to develop data pipelines and automate data collection processes.

2.    Data Validation and Quality Assurance: Validate and verify the accuracy and completeness of data by performing data quality checks, identify anomalies or discrepancies, and collaborate with data owners or data stewards to resolve data issues, and ensure data compliance with relevant standards, regulations, or governance policies.

3.    Data Analysis and Interpretation: Apply statistical analysis techniques to large datasets using tools such as SQL, Excel, Python, or R to perform data queries, aggregations, and calculations, and identify trends, patterns, and correlations within the data to derive meaningful insights, preferably using data visualisation tools to present findings in a clear and understandable manner.

4.    Data Modelling and Forecasting: Build statistical models and forecasting techniques to predict future trends and outcomes based on historical data, using regression analysis, time series analysis, or machine learning algorithms to develop predictive models. Assess model accuracy and provide recommendations based on forecasted results.

5.    Data Visualisation and Reporting: Create reports and dashboards to effectively communicate findings and present data-driven insights to stakeholders. Develop interactive visualisations, charts, and graphs to communicate complex information effectively, working closely with business teams to understand reporting requirements and ensure that reports provide actionable insights to support decision-making.

6.    Data-driven Decision Support: Data analysts support decision-making processes by providing insights and recommendations based on data analysis, working with business stakeholders to understand their objectives and help define key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics, as well as conduct ad-hoc analysis and answer specific business questions to support strategic initiatives.

7.    Stakeholder Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business stakeholders, data scientists, and other IT professionals, working closely with business teams to understand their requirements and provide data-driven insights and communicate findings and recommendations to non-technical audiences in a clear and concise manner. Additionally, act as a bridge between technical and non-technical teams, ensuring smooth communication and understanding and where needed, an element of Project Management.

8.    Mentorship and Training: Mentor and provide guidance to less-experienced team members, sharing knowledge and best practices and conduct training sessions to team members or stakeholders.

9.    Continuous Improvement and Innovation: Stay updated with the latest data analysis techniques, tools, and technologies, and explore new methodologies, algorithms, or visualisation techniques to enhance data analysis capabilities.

10.    Data Security and Privacy: Adhere to data security and privacy regulations, ensuring protection of sensitive data by following best practices for data anonymisation and encryption and working closely with data governance teams to ensure compliance with data protection standards and industry regulations.
