Job Summary:

This position is a cross-functional role pivotal for guiding our dynamic, innovation-driven data team. The Modern Data Platform stands at the forefront of our mission to deliver the best consumer experience and achieve our century vision. This role will interact with various stakeholders across different business units, ensuring a seamless flow from backlog refinement to sprint delivery. They are responsible for overseeing the design, development, implementation, and maintenance of the organization's data platform. Coordinating a team of data engineers, database administrators, and other technical staff, they ensure the efficient and reliable operation of the data platform. The primary focus will be managing the day-to-day operations of our agile data teams, bridging the strategic vision of product owners with the practical challenges faced by technical teams. An understanding of the technical landscape, including tools like DBT, SQL, and Snowflake, is crucial. This role is ideal for a proactive individual who can navigate both technical and business landscapes to drive our data initiatives in alignment with broader business objectives.

Job Description:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties as assigned):

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Engage with stakeholders across different business units to understand their data needs, identify platform requirements, and translate these needs into Agile user stories.Agile Leadership: Apply Agile/Scrum principles and practices to manage the development and delivery of data products. Collaborate with the Data Product Owner to define clear sprint goals, track sprint progress, identify and mitigate risks, and adjust plans to deliver value incrementally.Team Coordination: Lead and coordinate a team of data engineers, database administrators, and other technical staff, fostering a collaborative environment, promoting knowledge sharing, and facilitating professional growth opportunities.Stakeholder Communication: Regularly communicate platform updates, progress, and issues to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.Security Oversight: Maintain and certify the data platform's security and audit controls, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.Vendor Management: Oversee vendor and partner relationships, ensuring alignment with the team's objectives and deliverables.Team Onboarding: Coordinate the onboarding process for new team members, ensuring they are well-integrated and equipped to contribute effectively.Backlog Management: Work closely with product owners to refine and prioritize the backlog, ensuring alignment with business priorities and stakeholder needs.Blocker Resolution: Proactively address impediments that might hinder team progress and ensure the data platform meets stakeholder needs.Data Governance: Drive and manage the data governance program, ensuring data integrity and compliance across all initiatives.Industry Awareness and Continuous Improvement: Stay abreast of industry best practices, emerging trends, and technological advancements in data platform management, ensuring our platform remains cutting-edge and aligned with industry standards.

SCOPE & IMPACT: 

Serve as a key member of La-Z-Boy Data & Analytics Team, representing the department in strategic initiatives related to business processes and IT Systems. Provide expert consulting on the future direction of company initiatives. Act as a liaison between the business and IT, supporting initiatives that drive business effectiveness and productivity across the organization, including support functions (HR, Finance & Accounting, Supply Chain, Strategy, etc.), Retail Stores, Regional Distribution Centers, and Commercial; and other businesses such as Joybird and Casegoods. 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field with related 6-8 years’ experience in managing data platforms, Projects, or related roles or equivalentDemonstrated leadership abilities with a track record of leading technical teams, fostering collaboration, and driving results in a cross-functional environment. Proven skills in conflict resolution, team motivation, and stakeholder management.Strong understanding of data platform architectures, data modeling, data integration, and data management principlesFamiliarity with key data tools, including DBT, SQL, Snowflake, Master Data Management, PowerBI, DOMO, and FiveTran.Knowledge and experience with Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.Experience applying Agile principles in data platform development and delivery.Familiarity with Agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello) and collaboration tools (e.g., Slack, Microsoft Teams).Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical concepts to non-technical audiences.Ability to adapt to changing priorities, work independently, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Continuous learning mindset to stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends in data management and Agile methodologies.Travel: Up to 10%.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: MBA or Master's degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field.Agile certification is a plus.Experience in the furniture manufacturing or a related industry.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Lead and support data engineers, fostering an environment where they can align with the organization's data strategy and best practices.Lead and work closely with vendor resources, ensuring their contributions align with contractual agreements and organizational standards.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:Office environment / no specific or unusual physical or environmental demands. Often required to sit, repetitive hand motion) hear, listen, and talk. Nearly continuously required to visually see information.  Not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions.
