Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, has an exciting new opportunity as our Data Science Intern on the Data Science Team.  The Choice Data Science team develops predictive analytics capabilities and models in support of key corporate initiatives. The team partners with leaders across the enterprise to design and deliver end-to-end data science solutions for use cases in Marketing, Loyalty, Global Sales, Finance, Franchise Sales, Portfolio Strategy, and Brands. 

As an Intern with our Data Science Team, you will work alongside one of our experienced data scientists on a project that contributes to business operations and decision making.  You will gain experience with the Amazon Sagemaker cloud computing environment, programming in SQL and Python, and developing a data science product from the initial data pull to the final presentation.

Your Responsibilities

Perform statistical analysis to identify trends and extract insights from complex datasetsUse SQL to extract data and engineer features from our data warehouseDevelop decisioning tools and predictive models to support strategic business initiativesPrepare reports and data visualizations to communicate findings to senior stakeholders

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

Undergraduate or graduate student working towards a degree in data science, analytics, computer science, statistics, economics, or a related field; rising seniors and graduate students preferredKnowledge of modeling techniques including linear and generalized linear models, clustering, principal component analysis, and other statistical methodsProficiency in Python/R and SQLEager to learn and a motivated self-starterStrong oral and written communication skillsTrustworthy with sensitive and confidential informationExperience working with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel)Ability to uphold Choice’s Cultural Values: Welcome and Respect Everyone, Be Bold, Be Quick, Listen, Be Curious and Show Integrity

Your Team

This is an individual contributor role that will report to the Senior Director, Data Science and Location Intelligence.  You will have 8 peer teammates and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As our Data Science Intern, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Right now, our associates in corporate headquarters are working in a hybrid environment, up to 4 days per week in the office and virtually from your home office the remaining days. We provide flexibility and encourage ongoing communication with your leadership to establish expectations about your unique needs.
