BWXT’s Nuclear Operations Group - Lynchburg is currently seeking a Data Scientist for its Lynchburg, VA location!

 

The Data Scientist will establish data science capability at the Nuclear Operations Group – Lynchburg facility.

 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Combines engineering experience with data science for nuclear product research and development. Applies a knowledge of manufacturing processes, an innate curiosity, and a willingness to learn in developing machine learning and data science capabilities at NOG-L. Assists in the development of standards for data structure and integrity to support machine learning objectives. Learns and deploys a range of statistical techniques for causation analyses. Works with engineers across NOG-L product lines to distill and solve manufacturing and inspection problems. Interacts with customer continuously to ensure that expectations are met. Also, may: Establish machine and deep learning systems for predictive quality. Employ visualization products including analytics, 3D simulation, and data models. Develop sensor platforms and imagery processing on development or production processes. Propose new data science work for customer funding. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or a related discipline with a focus in data science, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence. Must possess at least six (6) years of manufacturing and data science experience.  Must possess proven ability and willingness to learn new tools. Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills. Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required. Proven analytical and creative problem-solving abilities is required. Must be highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail. Must be a US Citizen with no dual citizenship. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

ABET-accredited degrees. Expertise in NOG-L product lines. Previous experience in statistical analysis, signal processing and/or computer vision. Strong coding skills in C++, Python, R, or other similar tools. Previous experience in simulation or design tools. Previous experience with image processing using OpenCV, Tensorflow, and similar packages. Previous experience with process monitoring.

The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA) is expected to be $112,000 per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
