In this role, you will join the Enterprise Data Strategy team, focusing on advancing talent and governance maturity across these professionals through unified strategies, training programs, and talent practices.
Job Description: What would you do?
As we look toward the future, it's clear that data will be the cornerstone of our industry. The market leaders will be those who can harness data at scale using advanced capabilities to unlock value. Help us prepare for this future by joining Liberty Mutual’s first-ever Enterprise Data Strategy Team. In this position, you’ll work across teams to ensure we become a top destination for data talent, promoting career development and meaningful work to consistently develop strong-performing data professionals. This role demands strategic thinking, deep collaboration, and a willingness to navigate ambiguity to build skills for the future within the data community at Liberty.
Responsibilities: What would you accomplish?
Talent Strategy & Practices: Co-lead a Data Talent working team to define the standards for excellence, including setting skill targets by data persona that are well communicated and adopted across the community. Understand skill gaps and work to close them through training, hiring guidance, and more. Manage talent practices where common business needs exist. Upskilling: Develop and own Liberty Mutual’s data and analytics upskilling platform, complete with communication and adoption plans and clear impact measurements. Collaborate with teammates and partners to ensure the platform includes meaningful self-paced and classroom training by skill and persona, providing clear paths for development. Adjust offerings based on adoption, effectiveness, and feedback. Communication and Community: Build our community by expanding and coordinating communications and community events (e.g., Town Halls). Own and maintain internal department pages, community sites, newsletters, and scorecards. Prepare executive messaging and broad community communications based on priorities and business needs. May assist with executive presentation materials.
Skills: What will help your success?
Experience working in at least one data persona (e.g., Data Strategist, Data Steward, Data Product Owner, Data Solutionist, Data Engineer, etc.) is essential. Success in this role will be driven by a strong understanding of how specific tasks are performed, such as data wrangling, data modeling, reporting, and governance activities like metadata and data quality management. While much of the work for this role involves collaborating with experts, a foundational understanding is highly beneficial, as you will need to ensure the adoption of upskilling programs and measure their impact, rather than focusing solely on theoretical best practices without real-world application. Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to motivate teams to embrace change, including adapting complex topic messaging for diverse audiences. Experience in developing and coordinating training programs for large organizations. Deep understanding of data personas and their impact on the company’s success through data and analytics. Ability to handle questions independently, applying hypothesis-driven problem-solving to complex challenges. Demonstrates initiative, adds value, and anticipates future challenges. Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to anticipate needs and proactively address them. Mentors others, influences team culture, and leads complex projects. Promotion of continuous learning by encouraging skill development and ensuring upskilling programs are executed efficiently and effectively, adapting to challenges and opportunities. Familiarity with the Power Platform (e.g. Power BI, Power Apps) is preferred. Note: Non-technical candidates with strong potential, who may not have technical degrees or backgrounds in technology or mathematics, will be considered. However, a broad understanding of the skills and knowledge essential for a successful data literacy program will aid in your success. Ability to work EST.
