DCPS - Data warehouse specialist
DCPS is seeking an experienced data warehouse specialist to support the implementation of a data warehouse that drives timely and accurate downstream reporting and analytics. Working alongside DCPS staff, the specialist will be responsible for developing data warehouse technical requirements, physical data model(s) and schema to support the implementation of the data warehouse solution. The specialist will work with source system developers to design and implement ETL approaches to pull data from systems of record into data warehouse. The developer will also support report development by directing SQL queries and create reports on K12 related data in a business-intelligent manner for internal clients. The specialist will also work with DCPS staff to review and update pre-existing report applications and SQL reports and underlying dataset queries to improve performance.
The specialist will be expected to balance immediate needs with future direction and ensure that work for one project can be leveraged for other purposes as much as possible. In addition to technical skill they must have a strong sense of curiosity and a focus on outcomes as critical parts of the role will be to help come up with the future long-term vision for data systems in DCPS and plan out what should be built to implement that vision.
Specific Duties:
Translates data warehouse business requirements into physical data model and schema. Works with technical staff and program teams to develop understanding of reporting requirements as needed. Reviews and makes recommendations about how to transition current state reporting platform to data warehouse.Designs ETL approach to pull data from systems of record into data warehouse. Create scripts and queries to enable data integration between various student data systems.Implements business rules via stored procedures, middleware, or other technologies.Research, review, and analyze the effectiveness and efficiency of existing reports, and develop strategies for enhancing and improving the performance of these reports.Develops and deploys new reports and various visual representations including self-service reports using Veera, SSRS, Qlik, Tableau, MS Power BI, Excel, and other BI Tools to meet reporting needs. Writes SQL code to implement complex queries for reporting.Support the migration of data feed platform from Oracle to MS SQL by contributing in technical specification documentation, ETL development and maintenance.Trouble shoots complex code, identify SQL performance bottlenecks and optimize SQL queriesAdhere to coding standards and participate in peer code reviews.Maintains clean and elegant code as well as ensures up to date code repository.Investigates new technologies and suggests new solutions to business problems.Works collaboratively to design and build relational databases, and develops strategies for data acquisitions, archive recovery, and implementation of a database.Defines, designs, and builds dimensional databases.Develops data warehousing blueprints, evaluating hardware and software platforms, integrating systems.Reviews and develops object and data models and and the metadata repository to structure the data for better management and quicker access.Performs other related duties as assigned.Required Skills and Experience:
Required: 11+ years of professional experience.Required: 5+ years of experience as a dedicated Report Developer / Reporting Analyst.Required: 5+ years of hands on experience in SQL Server, Relational Database, Extract Transform and Load (ETL).Required: 2+ years of experience writing, troubleshooting, and tuning Java Script Pages (JSP), HTML, and XML.Required: 2+ years of experience with dashboard development using tool such as Tableau, QLIK, or Power BI.Required: 2+ years of experience developing from end report using tools such as Jaspersoft, crystal reports, or other.Required: Keen sense of maximizing return on investment, focusing on the 80% solutions rather than a fruitless quest for perfection.Required: Strong attention to detail and the ability to translate high level technical and business initiatives and goals into discrete tasks and specific timelines.Required: Excellent communication skills, especially the ability to actively listen and draw out the true needs rather than the stated wants of any given stakeholder.Required: Superb problem solving skills and troubleshooting abilities.Required: Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multidisciplinary teamRequired: Strong focus on teamwork and developing the skills of DCPS colleagues both technical and non-technical.Nice to have: Experience in K12 Data models.Nice to have: knowledge of HIPPA and FERPA.CONTRACT JOB DESCRIPTION

Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or related field or equivalent experience.
